NX inline remote w/ backlit LCD?

Anyone speak German?

Please check out this German review and let us know how they got the cool backlit LCD remote to work with the NX. Or is this just the German version of the remote? I tried translating the page to no avail. Thanks.

Well it is the remote from a Minidisc player. I don't know how they converted it because I have a Minidisc player and the digital plug-in part of the remote is too big to fit the Clie one.

All I could draw from my rough German is that he is really mad that the NX doesn't come with the MD remote. I couldn't find anything indicating that he was actually using that remote with his NX. I'm just confused why he included pictures of that rather than the real remote...maybe got confused...

Maybe he was showing the remote that he really wants to use with his Clie. Sony could easily add the MD AM/FM remote to the Clie too.

It seems like he is saying that with such an expensive clie they coulda used a remote like that

Looking at the remote for the MD and Clie it seems that *someone* might get the remote to work.

Assuming the clie remote has 2 connections and the MD has 4:

Clie - (1)Power, (2)Control
MD - (1)Power, (2)Control, (3)Backlight, (4)Title

I see one of two ideas.

1. Get a cheap MD remote and remove pins 3+4, see what happens.

2. Open the clie and wire the MD connection (4pin) and make the clie hole bigger.

I am assuming nobody will do #2, but as soon as I find a cheap remote I will try #1. If my theory is correct it will work but not display anything, which won't do much good, but it will be interesting to find out if its possible.


Again, all quick theory...feel free to comment.

here's a quick and dirty translation but you were mostly correct

Wenn es schon ein so teurer Entertainment PDA ist könnte Sony auch die
Fernbedienungen ihrer mobilen High-End-(Net)MD-Recorder in den CLIE integrieren
So könnte man den CLIE blind als vollwertigen MP3-Spieler nutzen und hätte zudem
eine sehr ergonomische Fernbedienung dabei um alles nötige bequem zu steuern.
Dank des integrierten Displays könnte man bei Bedarf auch so kurz einen Blick auf's
Display werfen ohne umständlich den Palm wieder aus der Tasche zu kramen, aufklappen, einschalten usw.
Das wäre sicherlich sehr schön und es wäre kein Thema Zubehör nachträglich
zu bestellen falls man mal die Fernbedienung verloren haben sollte oder diese defekt ist.

Then you could use the MP3 player "blind" and would also have a very ergonomic
remote with which to control everything. With it's integrated display, you could just cast a
glance to it instead of having to take out your Clie from your pocket, open it, switch on the
display etc. This would be great and it shouldn't be a problem to order this additionally
if you lose or break your existing remote

Sorry to disapoint you, jovenis... They did not connect that beautiful remote to the NX!
They just complain that the remote of the NX is not that good as the remote of the Sony MD-recorder. Just for demonstration purposes they show pictures of the MD-remote (NOT connected to the clie).

Sorry about it, i would like to have such a beautiful remote with my NX, too
