...... and has anyone found a sniffer program yet?
Thanks

I have simple surfing needs, so Blazer and WebProV work fine for me. NetFront3 was just shear frustration with all the page too large errors, poor readability, and it was slow as heck! BTW, everytime I tried to zoom it, the page would have to try and reload. Not only that, but it was a pig in the amount of RAM used and there was no alternative as to where it could be installed. Both WebProV and Blazer can be run from the memory stick launcher folder. WebProV can be setup to clear the cache on exit, so all the RAM used can be reclaimed immediately.
Blazer uses an optimized server to display the content better on the PDA's screen without a lot of scrolling along with clear legible text and graphics. It is NOT HiRes, but still isn't bad.
With WebProV, I found that I can set it up to use Blazer's optimized server. Not only that, WebProV is HiRes 320x320 resolution which also works very nicely. Anybody needing specialized applications, then will have to weigh their options.
PocketLink did nothing, but crash my NX70. I have NOT tried Xiino or Netspring as of yet.
There is no perfect browser for the Clie, so far.
No sniffer apps that I have heard about.

web pro comes with Tungsten I think.
There was a link somewhere, not sure where maybe do a search..
The thing is web pro stopped working for me on Saturday night I think and has not worked since. I think there was a time expiration on it.
Otherwise I think it was a much better browser, so much faste just not full screen.

Maybe someone can help....i downloaded Web Pro V and installed it to my mem stick. I have Netfront installed in RAM. Each time I connected the wifi card to the network, i got a fatal reset using Web Pro V. Is it possible that I cannot have Web Pro V and Netfront on the same PDA?
Thanks in advance.

For me the best browser is already included with your NX's CD Rom and that is NetFront 3.0 by ACCESS:
Believe me, once installed in your NX, try going to this optimized list of web sites for PDA:
http://www.cantoni.org/palm/links.html
Cheers!
Once you tried, it you'll notice that the annoying pop-up message box is not happening!
Cheers again!
BTW, if you need some more optimized URLs, let me know I have lots of them.;)

I d better stick with Webpro,
small and easy to use...no error so far...
The NEtfront only gives me tons of errors...I have to free up my memory to 8 MB to install it successfully.
and I can't put more program in the palm after I install the netfront...really frustrated.
Now, I can have my Chinse OS in the palm(2.5MB), and put ICQ, AIM, mail into the MS. and I still have 5MB free in the NX70V.
The Netfront is just not working for me.

We are all still waiting for the perfect browser. I got so disgusted with NetFront, I almost smashed my Clie! With Net Front, either the page was too big or too small and anytime I tried to navigate I would get all these page errors. Then there was this switching of resolutions back and forth. For my casual browsing needs, WebPro or Blazer is just fine. Reducing or eliminating the cache helped some with page too large errors, but it still was far too many of them. Using Blazer's Home Handspring URL made WebPro even nicer and fast too. WebPro has the option of clearing the cache on exit, good for those with limited RAM.

Here's a tip: use http://tinyurl.com if you're having trouble posting up long URLs onto a notice board - it crushes 'em down to a teensy weensy l'il URL that works just fine.
The handspring address is: http://tinyurl.com/4t2h

(sheepishly).... although in this case n2ifp put up a needlessly long URL which insluded his own dynamic session address - the actual address is simply:
http://www.handspring.com/mobile/
(But to be pedantic and to salvage my reputation, the even smaller URL with tinyurl.com comes out as http://tinyurl.com/4t2q )

That's the optimized server?!?!? I thought this was to replace the host address in WebPro from webpro.palm.com, which is where all requests from WebPro go first.

Hi,
I've installed WebPro on my NR and works fine... only problems are that;
if I select "Standard" font from the Font Menu I don't see any font (only boxes)... therefore I don't have the font I need installed... can anyone please tell me which one it is and where I can get it from? It works if i choose small font, but I think that affects the way the pages are displayed...
Also, in the Display Option I cannot find the Best Quality Option, and therefore don't get full Hires Graphics, can someone explain why please....Thanks for any help that you might be able to give me

Oh, you say NR, it might not be possible if your using the OS5 version of WebPro. It might only be available on the NX and Tungsten. The graphic API's are different between the two operating systems.

Well, I guess that's why it dosen't appear in hires and when installed on the NR it removes the Best Quality option in the
Display Option Menu.
However, it does work and in actual fact in the WebPro manual it says that it needs as minimum requirement Palm =S 4.1.
If anyone feels like trying it on their NR, please let us know how it works... I'm curious to see if anyone gets it to work in Hires mode and with the Best Quality display option available.....

True, but remember in the NR, Sony installed it's own proprietary graphics set. Sort of a virtual OS5 before OS5. Before OS5, it was not a Palm standard, but now it is with OS5.

Larry, thanks for that... now i understand...
Aside from the hires graphics, do you know why it dosen't display the web page in the nice layout that you see when displaying the same web page on a OS5 palm...
At this point I'm really sad... i want to be able to surf the web with high res (i.e. i need OS5)..... however don't like the NX70 due to its CF slot which for me is useless (and makes it wider), the NZ is too BIG and the Tungsten has a screen which is too small and no keyboard (essential after having got used to the NR)......:(
Can someone please give me an NR with OS 5, integrated bluetooth, 32 ram/16 rom, MS PRO compatible............ i'll even do without the camera.... PLEASE!!!!!

Since WebPro seems to require you to view pages through its "host" (whether you have that configured as webpro.palm.com or use handspring) doesn't this effectively prevent you from using it with an intranet?

Netfront isn't so bad if you use it as an Avantgo substitute. I just used the Avantgo and PocketPC site urls and made a custom home page with all of those links. So if I'm at Starbucks, I just load up Netfront, and surf to all the text-only sites. It is quite fast when you don't have any complicated html. That was the only solution I found making Netfront tolerable.

I use iambic mail, my personal preference. You have Clie Mail which is free and was included with your Clie.
It all depends what you use your web browser for. For something simpler you can try the TT version of WebProV.

Blazer is also free for Sprint PCS customers and it used to be dowloadable from the Spint PCS site.

I use NetFront, and I have over 8 MB RAM free at all times. After I enter the app and PowerRun copies it to RAM, I've got over 6 MB RAM free. I haven't run into a page that gives NetFront an error in days, and I go to some pretty demanding sites, including ones that require 128 bit security (ebay, paypal, etc). I'm guessing NetFront gives those errors purely because of how much content it's capable of displaying. I mean, pages display as well as my desktop, and for mobile-formatted websites, as fast as the broadband access it's running on. On more demanding sites, it seems like 56K, which isn't bad at all.
I have yet to come across another browser that displays pages as beautifully as NetFront. Really, if I wouldn't have to be so stingy with RAM, NetFront would be the perfect browser. Basically, I want a 320x480 screen, NetFront 3.0, and 32-64 MB RAM. This would make an awesome web-browsing machine (ahem, Sony get to work on the RAM).
For the life of me I cannot get NF to work on my NX. I can get it installed, but it will not launch or open.
abosco
05-07-2003, 08:58 PM
You need 8 MB RAM free when you install it for NetFront to show up in the launcher. Then, you'll need at least 2 MB free RAM when you run it. You can use PowerRun to store NetFront on the card, but it copies it to RAM when you run the application. That means if NetFront is on the card, you'll need 4 MB free RAM for NetFront to work properly, and the more RAM free, the better.

I've had the same problem with the web link. I'm very interested in trying webpro as NetFront uses so much memory.

http://leggnet.com/clie/ This works great. She ain't pretty or flashy like NetFront. I've encountered no conflicts with other browsers. I'm running it out of MS through PoweRun. My only gripe is the cosmetics. Have fun.....

I don't know why anyone is having trouble, I click on the link and it's there instantly. Nothing fancy about the page at all. BTW, it's NOT my site, it belongs to one of the other Cliesource users.

More than likely a browser problem. It is an index only site, similar to an ftp.

I too had nothing but problems with the version of NetFront that shipped on my NX cd; however since loading the new version, it seems to behave flawlessly. I don't get the "page too big" error, as long as I keep the zoom on the smalles print (which is what I prefer anyway). It works great on secure sites -- If only my NX had more RAM (i've been battling running out since I bought it) and if only my clie supported multiple windows......that would be cool.

is there an upgraded version of webpro?

A short story of my WIFI experience
I bought a WIFI card for my NX70 with this 'fantasy' of surfing wireless from all corners of my home. NetFront that came with the CD I foolishly thought was the one & only web-browser optimized for surfing on my Clie - I almost became a nervous wreck by the end of the week. I thought I just burnt some hard cash for a WIFI card that was great only for Wireless Hotsync ....
Somehow by some sheer luck, I stumbled into this forum, into WebPro and the rest is history. I am not a foot fetish, but Larry - can I kiss both your feet?:D

Yah, saying Larry's got issues with netfront is like saying W's got issues with Aye-rahbs.
Question re: Snappermail -- how does it handle accessing Yahoo! mail! ?

I had my first wifi-via-clie' experience this weekend and it was LOVELY to be out in the sun surfin' via WebPro. I've not tried any other browser and must say that until one comes out that'll take advantage of the clie's 480 screen to go landscape, WebPro is fine for my needs.

Great.. one day after raving... interesting problem:
I've set up a "Sniffer" configuration and tested at work. My office doesn't yet have Wireless but clearly someone in the building does because I get a helluvastrong signal right off the bat.
HOWEVER, once I open WebPro, the NX freezes -- must soft-reset.
Ideas? I'mabout to install Blazer see if that helps, but I had such a great experience with WebPro the first time out, I'm hesitant to lose it (and all the bookmarks I set into it!)
Help?

I also got the "page too large" error for most of the time when using NetFront, is there a fix for that?

I believe the fix, per Larry, is called.... WebProV.. or Blazer.. or PLink... or ANYTHING but NetFront!

As I understand the Tunsten-C has a new proxyless Webbrowser called "Palm Webbrowser 2" (or something like that). Does it run on the NX at all and if so, does anyone have that available for testing purposes?
I find WebPro repugnant for anything but the simplest "mobile" sites, but as Webbrowser 2 is supposed to be proxyless, I hope that would mean it doesn't screw over the site before it shows you the leftovers.

I tried sucking the web browser out of my wife's Tungsten C and into my NX70, but it didn't work. Given that NetFront's installation process is more elaborate, I didn't expect it would work, however. It's apparently in Flash on the C so I couldn't load it off of the CD. The browser looks very similar to NetFront, and is from the same company.

i believe T|C runs WebProV, and you can install it on Clie.
In my opinion, Web Prov V is nice and simple, but NetFront is still better. If you've been reading webpages in full screen mode in NetFront, it's going to be hard to look at 320x320 pages in Web Pro V. Also, you can't resize the rendering of pages (in NetFront it's the magnifying glass with + symbol) which can be annoying sometimes.
I've installed both browsers on my clie, but I use NetFront more often.
I use clie for quick browsing so i'm not too concerend with "page too large." lots of web pages these days have tons of banner graphics and flashing this, flashing that. you can't expect your portable device to handle everything :)

The Tungsten T runs WebPro V, but the C runs a newer version of NetFront.

ugh. i was wrong about T|C running WebProV. It runs PalmSource Web Browser 2.0. you can find all the info about it here
