4 is definitely not supported
1 is definitely supported
2 i am unsure about

exceptions: 4 IS supported but you need to use third-party voice rec and music playing tools as the standard ones do not like the FAT32 needed to use the 4gb stick

2GB natively, 4GB with the FAT32 hack.

Also, some 2 GB "high speed" sticks are not compatible with the UX50, so unless you buy an old "pearly white" Sony stick, you would want to try before you buy, or otherwise be able to return them.

And if you intend to use MagicGate, the largest supported stick is 128 MB...

What is the largest MS Pro stick supported? And I am newbie to UX50 what is the difference with Magic Gate. I just bought a SanDisk 512mb MS Pro with Magic Gate and am wondering should I buy something bigger to support my GPS app (DeLorme Street Atlas)?

512MB should be fine so long as the stick is dedicated to that task alone. The other option is to buy a few smaller sticks second hand from ebay - that's what I did. I have 2 x 256MB sticks for media (usually videos) and a third for my apps and documents. I suppose it's all because I'm such a cheapskate!

I use authentic Sony (black) 2GB Memory Stick Pros. Works like a charm.

I have used both 2gb Sandisk Duo Pro (blue) & 2gb Sandisk Magicagte Pro (metallic blue) with NPs.

I am using high 2gb speed pro duo magic gate w/ adapter w/o problems. I use tomtom gps and it takes roughly 1.3gb memory for the maps of entire U.S. and Canada w/ POIs intact.

MagicGate is a copy protection system, which can be used for a variety of purposes. In reality, it lets you play back ATRAC3 files with the PDA. Since these sound much better than an MP3 of equivalent size, that's a plus.

However, no matter whether the stick is marked MagicGate or not, you can not use the MagicGate functionality for sticks larger than 128 MB with the UX devices. The sticks will still work as if they didn't have MagicGate, so most people won't notice a difference.

Just checked out the FAT32 patch in the Applications area; so the failure of the built-in tools on 4G cards with your patch is a CLIE thing?

Looks like people there are having success with the built-in apps and 4gig sticks if they format FAT not FAT32; they are just ignoring the lost space then?

It's a huge thread and I didn't read all 50? pages but that was my take-home :)
