Hello all,

I am new to Cliesource and glad to find a medical group or forum here.

I have a quick question. Currently, I have a Handera 330 and loving it; but need to upgrade to a color PDA. I have contemplated between NX70V or Toshiba e755. What are your thoughts in terms of advantages and disadvantages of the two in medicine? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Best,
John

Hello again,

Any recommendation or thought at all would be fine. Just would like your opinion and personal experiences. Comments need not be detailed comparison between the two, but if possible would be great.

Best,
John

what are you looking for your handheld to do? both devices are pretty big machines. the nx70v and toshiba e755 both have the best screens for their respecitve os, do you have a preference for palm or pocket pc 2002? I found pocket pc 2002 activesync a pain to sync files especially big downloads, if you want the camera you may want to take a look at the new Zire 71 which I think has comparable features to Nx70 except for the smaller screen, and no voice recorder, the problem with nx70 is it only has 11 mb which means you have to have a memory stick card

Just to give a fair comparison, the e755 in the other hand has built-in WiFi and an additional internal 32 MB Flash disk which survives hard resets. The total memory available for apps is actually 96 MB. It also has a CF and SD slot and a good thing about PPCs, apps run directly from memory cards. As for ActiveSync, the latest version has greatly improved its speed.

I think the bottom line is to check what apps are available for each platform. Another thing to consider is, what your office currently support -- if everyone is using Palm OS, then go for the NX, if PPC then go for the e755.

Also, if wifi connectivity is important to you, you may also want to consider they new Tungsten C which is priced below the e755 btw...

Thank you Palmos67, Reggie, and gfunkmagic, for your posts.

"what are you looking for your handheld to do?..." just to provide medical references at the point of care, large data bases as med dictionary, epocrates, etc.

"do you have a preference for palm or pocket pc 2002?" I have no experiences with PPC, so don't know how well one works and how wide of a selection of medical references available for it. Eventhough, no previous PPC, wouldn't mind to switch if it means that I can do more with one. I love the external memories of my Handera 330. Have been holding back on Sony because of MS, but now with the CF driver available, just wonder how the experiences of those who own a NX or NZ and tried the driver with medical references been.

Would be great to have a camera and voice recorder and more internal RAM on the unit.

I have looked at the descriptions of the Zire 71 and T/C. For odd reasons, both don't appeal to me as much as the e755 or NX, though would love the 51MB internal RAM for Palm OS.

BTW, what is "Palm Universal connector?" First time ever to run across this when reading T/C, and have no clue what it is. Any one with experiences/knowledge about it mind to share?

In terms of who use what at hospitals or office, a mixture of both PPC and Palm OS. Still much individualized when it comes to choice of PDA. Just haven't had much opportunity to chat about different experiences. Thought here may be more efficient at getting the information.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

Best,
John

the universal connector is what Palm has done to their past couple handhelds to allow them to use same cradle, keyboards, and other accessories that plug into the bottom of the handheld

The Palm UC is a connector on the bottom of many palm's that allows you accessorize your pda with tons of things such as modems, cables, GPS, printers, scanners and keyboards. PalmSG has used the UC on every pda since the M125 , with exception to the Zire. Here is a list of UC-compatible pdas: M125, M130, M500, M505, M515, T|T, T|W, i705, T|C, Zire-71, and Garim ique 3600.

Here is PalmSG's site that lists all the available UC accessories available:

http://www.palm.com/products/accessories/peripherals/

This is very convenient b/c you don't have to buy new accessories ever time you upgrade your Palm if it is UC compatible...
