So now that the CF Memory driver is out I figure we can start threads on CF Memory itself.....
Anyone have any perspective on which CF Memory is best to buy?
ie. Lexar, SanDisk, SanDisk Ultra, Kodak, etc.
I understand there are differences in transfer speeds and overall voltage. So power consumption on the clie battery is a concern, as well as data transfer rates.
Any beta testers try the SanDisk Ultra? I hear its particularly fast.... maybe its all negligible difference anyways.

I happen to have a couple of Microdrives already, so that's the route I'll be going.

I have several different maker cards. The Ultra maybe more hype than actual. Just like the MS Pro, in a native device it maybe faster. There are some very recent threads in this forum that have links to speed tests from different makers.

Microdrives draw something like 10x the power. So basically the Microdrive is limited to read only.

ooops didn't see them, my bad. Anyways still up for peoples personal experiences so far with CF's.
From the other threads I think the following links were the most useful:

Surprising to find that there isn't much difference in them except that SanDisk is the slowest..... bums me out since they are also amongst the cheapest to buy on eBay.

Sandisk seem reliable enough - I'll stay away from PQI though
it seemed OK until i took about my 50th digital photo and saw it was corrupted (and the problem definitely lies with the CF card because all others are OK)

only thing putting a downer on the Sandisk is everyone says its slow ? i just want to know if it's adequate enough to play movies on the clie without skipping ?

I have the option to purchase a 1GB SIMPLETECH CF card. Has anyone else used this card with the new CF driver?
I'd like to know that it will work before placing an order.
Thanks, Joe

Lexar 24x. Just ask any digital photographer.

For those who are concerned about battery consumption, check out the current draw specs on a CF card.
For example, a memory stick uses 45 milliamps, a Sandisk CF may use 31 milliamps, and another brand my use 60 milliamps.
