On my Palm TX I have three email accounts set up: Comcast, Yahoo, and my office account, for which the mail service is listed as "Other" and the Protocol is POP.

I can receive email without any problems on all three accounts. However, I can reply to emails only on my Comcast and Yahoo accounts. When I try to reply to emails from my office, I get an error message that the server cannot be found.

I suspect the problem is that VersaMail already has listings for US-Yahoo and US-Comcast under Mail Service, but obviously has no listing for my office server.

As a workaround when I know that I will be away I can have people in the office send email to my Yahoo account. But as a practical matter I cannot inform all of my clients, so I receive mail in my office account, to which I cannot reply(I wind up sending a reply from one of my other accounts, but that is an annoying process).

Is there any solution to this problem or any other email service that would work? Otherwise I may just get a BlackBerry and stop using my TX to retrieve email.

Hi,
did you enter the correct smtp server?

On the PC where you sync, right click on the hotsync icon > Custom, then double-click on VersaMail. Highlight your office account, then click on "Edit Account", then click "Next". Click on "Test My Settings" and see if you get the same error message. If so, then there's something wrong with your outgoing mail server settings.

Note also that many smtp servers do not allow outgoing from outside there domain. (IP addresses that are considered within the domain can send outgoing mail, but if this is the case you probably wouldn't be able to send mail either from your TX or your home computer)

also make sure you double check the smtp port you're trying to use.... I've had trouble with that in the past....

I found this on the palm web site knowledge base page. Maybe it helps?

'SSL connections are not supported. Cannot form a network communication object' (when trying to use VersaMail conduit with Gmail or other account requiring SSL connections)

You may have seen the error message in your HotSync log from the VersaMail conduit: SSL connections are not supported. Cannot form a network communication object.

This message means that the VersaMail conduit does not support SSL connections to mail accounts when accessing the Internet via your desktop computer. The VersaMail client on your device supports SSL if you are connecting to your mail server over a wireless connection.

In summary, you cannot use the VersaMail conduit to access email accounts that require a secure (SSL) connection. This includes Google Gmail accounts which require SSL for both receiving (POP3) and sending (SMTP) email. You can access a mail account which requires SSL if you connect to the Internet via a wireless connection on your device
