I was trying to install a dictionary program, it was working well but then I tried to unlock it from demo to paid version (before you assume that I use cracked software - I purchased the software legally). I installed dictunlock.prc, and in the Application List, there is DictUnlock and then I clicked on it. After that, my TH55 screen frozen. I push the reset button at the bottom. Everything turns back to normal and the program is not a demo program anymore. And the DictUnlock is not in the Application List anymore. My question is that is my TH55 will be okay? Is there anything that I need to check?

I am a bit worried there is something wrong that I did during the dictionary installation because it was a bit complicated involving many files and some of them need to be installed on Memory Stick because of huge size.

Thanks in advance.

Many applications require soft reset to activate them.

As Dan stated, if your dictionary runs in background mode (which you should be able to toggle on or off, depending on your desires) so that you can access it in other applications (a good thing for dictionaries to offer), then one would expect a soft reset to enable it in background mode. Check the "About" screen on this new app and it should show in some fashion whether or not you are "registered" or still in trial or demo mode. ;)

Thank you for the replies. The program is registered now. I am glad it is just a normal thing to do a reset. :D
By the way, if clicking on the reset button is considered as "soft reset", then is pulling out the battery is considered as "hard reset"?

thanks in advance..

Yes. However, you can perform a hard reset without pulling the battery out too, by doing as follows:
1. Slide down and hold the POWER/HOLD switch.
2. Press the RESET button gently with the stylus, and then release the stylus.
3. Wait for more than 3 seconds after the Palm POWERED screen is displayed, and release the POWER/HOLD switch. The message "Erase all data?" is displayed.
4. Press the left button (the one on the jogdial, nearest to the phone jack)

This is the last resort effort when soft reset or warm reset fails.

A hard reset goes like this: you hold the power button down (don't release it), then punch the reset hole briefly. Then, when you see the Palm logo, let go of the power button. The TH reboots and asks whether you want to erase all data. The UP button on the back confirms, all other keys abort. The UP button is the left one on the back near the jog wheel, closest to the earphone output.

You can also disconnect the battery, however you'll need the special tri-blade screwdriver.

There is "warm reset"? How does it work?

..The UP button is the left one on the back near the jog wheel, closest to the earphone output...

Sorry, I could not see "UP" button, only "Back" button. Beside that, the one on the back left and near the jogdial is Back button and it is not closest to the earphone output because earphone output is on the right.

Simply hold down the "Power On" button, push the reset pin with the stylus. Your TH55 will get on showing the "PalmOS POWERED" logo, now release the "Power On" button you are still holding down and you will get prompted to "Erase all data?" with two options on screen:
YES - "left" button
No - any other button

The left button is simply the left button of the jogdial buttons, if you look at the back of the TH55 the left button corresponds to the right button of the jogdial buttons.

Normally the left and right jogdial buttons are used as up and down buttons in most applications.

Have you read about TIME TRAVEL with the on-board FLUX CAPACITOR yet? Sorry, a little Back To The Future humor for you! Couldn't resist.

Never heard about it..:p
Sony is maybe a bit futuristic for me..:D
Those 2 buttons beside jogdial are not like buttons at all, I thought they are for holding the jogdial in place...

After 2.5 years, TH55 is still the best Palm PDA around. :p
