Thanks to tosbsas for the heads up on this release!

Get it here: Resco Explorer (http://www.resco.net/palm/explorer/)

Changes:

Version 2.71 | Sep 26, 2006

First Palm OS5 release only.

Optimizations and code improvements

* Huge size reduction (stripping off Palm OS4 support + further optimizations)
* Safer copying: Better identification of write errors.
* Card browsing: More files system errors handled

User interface

* Long press of the center button can be used to open the context menu. (General Options)
* Incremental search works also for the folders. (In case of ambiguity files are preferred.)
* Filter preserves the file selection

Better identification of application databases

* Secret CreatorID's for a number of popular applications are recognized.
Many so far unidentified databases display app icons. (Notice: Some apps do not define icons for all resolutions. Use default font size to see the most icons.)
* Concerns also Control Panel > Preferences with improved identification of unknown items.
* Improved orphaned list (newly identified databases are not listed)

Viewer

* Support for jpeg images coded as 24bit RGB
* Database preview displays bitmap resources as images.

Other news

* Audio: mp3/wav files can be played with Explorer (provided the device has mp3 codec; LD, T5, TX, T650, E2, Z72...)
* Multi-beam (transferring several files at once), beam from the application tree
* DB Info dialog contains extended information in the last tab (application this DB belongs to etc.)
* Improved opened list: discovered also exclusively opened files (RAM context menu / special filter):

Looks good but, for a few years now, I've felt that the upgrade price for resco products isn't really worth it. Suppose it depends how often you use it though.

My understanding for their pricing is this...

All 2.x version updates are free to 2.x registered users. All updates to the next version, ie to 3.x, are free within one year of your original purchase.

If this is true, if you are a 2.x user the update will be free for you.

The upgrade price is 1/2 the price of the software.

Of course, correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks bh77a. I currently have 2.70 installed and registered but, according to the automated email from Resco, I registered more than a year ago so I would have to pay 50% to upgrade. I think I'll wait for v3 before I upgrade again.

David,

If you have 2.70 registered, there is no upgrade charge for a .01 update. Typically you only pay for the next major revision, i.e 3.0. I'm CERTAIN that is the case here. Give 2.71 a go. ;)

And another update

Version 2.71.1 | Sep 27, 2006

Changes:
Based on user requests old center button interface was re-enabled as an alternative. (General Options)
Fix: 5way handling on Treo 600.

Remarks:
Treo 600: Long press interface does not work for Treo 600, because the device does not recognize needed events.
All devices with keyboard: Notice the Enter and Spacebar keys can also be used for the 'Open' command.

"* Long press of the center button can be used to open the context menu. (General Options)"

this works on my 700p...but other software (like ZLauncher) doesn't seem to allow me to change the use of the center button...it just always brings up "alerts."

Does anyone know of a hack or application that will allow me to chnge the function of the long press on the center button on a 700p?

Multipule file beaming support! I'm impressed and will be using RescoExplorer to do all my beaming now, instead of BeamPro.

Very nice! :D

Thanks wellsjs. You're right. I installed 2.71.1 over my current version and it's still a registered version :) Thanks again.
