I came back to work after the weekend and found that my brand new Windows XP computer no longer recognized my Clie. I figured ok, reinstall the drivers and everything and it will work right, no! I tried to remove all trace of the program and try one more time, didn't work.
I tried it on my Windows 98 laptop, works fine no problem not even a hiccup. So I figured it was my Windows XP at work. So I tried it on my XP desktop at home same problem when on Friday it was working fine and I had not made any changes to either the clie or the computer since then.
Then I thought maybe something on the clie caused this problem and it just migrated with the Clie. SO I hard reset same problem.
I figured ok time for drastic measures.
I triple pass security wiped my machine and reinstalled Windows XP and nothing else then hard reset the device again. Same problem, device is no longer recognized.
(It is not recognized for both MSImport and Hotsync.)
I have done a search on Windows XP problems and I tried all of their solutions and nothing worked. Seeing as my 98 laptop is on its last legs (hard drive keeps disappearing in the bios) I kind of need it work with Windows XP. I have tried it on several windows XP machines and nothing works, laptops, desktops. Brand new machines and year old machines, my Clie will no longer work with Windows XP. Any suggestions.
No idea 'till now, but try using it on win2k and on WinXP Prof. We need to figure out whether it is a hardware or software problem. I think your software is the problem, although you made a hard reset..BTW are u using the same cradle?

My home desktop is Win XP home and my Work one is XP Pro, windows 2000 gives a similar message. It says new hardware found and then pops up the add new hardware wizard but can never find the drivers, I tried to point it to them but it says there is no information here about your device.
Same problem occurs when using the cradle, usb sync cable (coworker has one) and my mini-sync cable.
All three work fine when used on my 98 laptop.
Also, everyonce in awhile, if I keep tapping connect/disconnect on the Clie (in MSImport) I can get the XP home version to recognize a sony mass storage device, but it lists it as a Sony Peg MGMS mass storage device, where as it used to list it as just a Sony Mass Storage device.

People have made fun of me in the past when I suggested ESD, electro static discharge. When you walk across a room in a dry enviorment, the voltage built up can destroy electronics very easily. After all you have done, it kind of narrows it down to the clie.
To prove it, try another clie. I would find it hard to believe 2 XP machines would quit working at once. Also the detection technique on the Win 98 machine maybe different.

Yea I figured it was the Clie, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to replace it. Where I live the NX and NZ are practically non-existent. I haven't seen an NZ at al yet and there is currently only one NX in the city and has been for the past 4 months.
Anyway, could it become a common event? I live in a very dry environment.

Well after doing some mishmashing of drivers and installations of palm desktop version I got Windows XP to recgonize what the device is, but it then usually says there was an error durin installation or if I don't get the error, nothing happens either way.

I am sorry your having so much difficulty. I got into the habit of grounding myself before touching any of my computer equipment. Before I place the clie in the cradle, I touch the metal frame of my PC first. I used to work in a Telco switch office and ESD was always a big concern when handling circuit packs. Some of the packs can run into thousands of dollars, not to mention reduced reliability.

This seems only to be half the truth:
My Win2k lists the Clie as a Mass Storage device in the Hardware disconnection manager. But in the system control it is a MGMS mass storage as well.
So there must be a different reason for this. Would the Clié be damaged, you shouldn't be able to sync at your laptop since it uses the same connection pins, doesn't it?
This ESD is not only in dry environment very common. I sometimes have such a high voltage, it shocks me really, urgh. I was going to think about a cord laying to the ground for discharge..
But again, no idea till now. Sry.
