hi there,
Just got hold of a CLie UX50, nice so far but i was wondering if there is any software you can installl so that you can use the device as a plug and play harddrive on any computer. By this i mean USB connection so you can access the memory stick directly.

thanks

You can use cardreader (commercial ware), here http://www.mobile-stream.com/cardreader.html , it does the job well, you can use both internal and memory stick as an USB driver, or just simply install JAmerica Driver-Free CLIÉ (http://jamerican.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=61) and use your Data Import to turn your MS into an USB driver on any computer

... and use your Data Import to turn your MS into an USB driver on any computer

therse an easy way to do that:
press the memorystick icon on the taskbar, choose the memory to mount (internal or ms) and hit connect.
just my 2¢ ;)

or as antoinepierre would point out: Ctrl+E and then Tab, Tab, Tab, Enter (for the latter, you need KQ) ;)

YOu should have "Data Import" in your UX50. it connects your UX to your PC by USB and you can read/write your memorytick.
thats what i use and is just great like any other card reader.
good luck

Thanks guys, didnt realise what data import was for! having said that, tried it and it still asks for drivers to be installed on the pc, thus doesnt do what i need it to do (which is be plug and play). any ideas?

just simply install JAmerica Driver-Free CLIÉ http://jamerican.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=61 and use your Data Import to turn your MS into an USB driver on any computer

Done, great stuff thanks!

Found just yesterday that sometimes my IBM ThinkPad recognizes my Cliè at boot like an USB HDD by Sony. 'This way it should be mountable in a Linux environment and perhaps you also may boot directly from the MS if properly formatted with an OS such as Syslinux+Knoppix. Please help me find out!

Edit: I was able to boot DSL Linux seamlessly, and can read/write from the drive, altough with some troubles. Looks like a good alternative to XP!
