I have 57k left in internal memory. I have a memory stick. I have tried moving some files that are not padlocked using Clie viewer, but then programs do not work. How can I tell what can safely be moved to the memory stick?

57K is no where near enough RAM to run most apps. Apps may not run if there is insuficient memory.

Most files with the .prc extension can be moved to the /Palm/Launcher folder. Most database files with the .pdb extension have to stay in RAM. Some apps need the .prc file left in RAM to HotSync, others with alarms need to stay too. There are exceptions to the rules and have to be taken on case by case basis. Best thing to do is read up on each app and see what the developer recommends. There is no one size fits all.

You can also try moving some of your applicaions over to your MS using a program such as powerrun. Not all programs can be moved though, but they are easily moved back to the internal memory and I have had no problem with them working again. I put my infrequently used applications and my smaller application on my MS, since it does take a little longer for them to load up.

I can definitly recommend the use of PowerRUN (http://homepage2.nifty.com/hackerdudesan/index-e.html). The latest version, 1.2 is fully compatible to the Clie NX and PalmOS 5.

The principle is quite simple. You move your apps and related databases to the MS using PowerRUN. PowerRUN places a link to that app on RAM. When you start the app in question, it moves the app and the databases to RAM in something like 1-4 seconds depending on the size of the app. When you quit the app PowerRUN moves the app back to the MS.

In order for PowerRUN to work properly, you need to have the equivalent of the size of the biggest app you put into PowerRUN available in RAM.

I have all my games and most of my apps stored in the MS using PowerRUN. No flaws, no problems. It's really a terrific tool and well worth the $12 shareware fee.

Like daveytr says, though, you cannot move all apps to the MS, all those which synchronize with the desktop need to be stored in RAM.

I have a question. When I upgraded from my palm M505 to my NX, the keyboard driver (Palm folding keyboard) was synced. It's "locked" and I can't remove it. Any idea how I got about unlocking it so I can remove it ?

Thanks

Hey bhroam-

Try using beampro, mcfile, jackflash or some other app along those lines, if you haven't already. I've had that happen before and I think one of those programs helped me remove files like that. I'm pretty sure, but good luck.

Reboot the Clie in "no-notify" mode - hold down the Up button and push in the Reset pin. Continue holding the Up button until the Palm logo appears.

The YiShow launcher can also do the same, but for all apps, not just a select few.
