Personally I find it easier to install most of my new programs through my memory stick and only install apps which require syncing with my desktop through the hotsync (like AvantGo).
What do you do? Is your PDA pretty much autonomous from your PC except for syncing of news/contacts/dates/etc? or do the two work hand in hand in most things?

I don't have many programs, but anyway, I prefer to install the big ones (like RigleSlugs,Dictionaries.....)in the MS..

Hotsync is evil. I use Pilot Intall, for all my application uploading needs. Otherwise, MSImport for data.

Well, I dont know that hotsync is evil, but I have had many problems with hotsync and really use alot of apps only on my handheld and thus find the garbage they leave on my PC annoying, thus I primarily install by putting manually copying the pdb into my directory via MS

MS installation here also. I save all my update patches & extra applications on CF as well. I always do full restore from the backup saved in MS. I prefer my NX to be more like a Stand-alone PDA rather than relying mainly on Hotsync, otherwise if I'm on a trip (isoloted from my PC) and something just goes wrong, I can do all the recovery, either be it full/partial backup, & my NX is right back to where it just left off. :D

I use Pintall to install apps. Nothing wrong with Hotsync, but I have a lot of conduits, so it takes a long time to just install an app. I have most that don't require syncing alarms on the MS.
