...with my clie!
this is so cool. i tried 'win handfree' like someone mentioned in another thread and it works great! I have full access to my desktop computer from my clie! it looks amazing in hi-res too.(no + yet tho). I advise everyone with a wi-fi card and access at home to try it.

Thanks to whoever mentioned it on the wifi poll thread!

There is another package called PalmVNC which can be used to get remote control:

Very nice and the server side is very well supported for several OSes.
Enjoy.

How secure are these apps?
or is that all dependent on your WAP config?
Other ppl in my building have 10.11b so I gotta ask. Dont need the guy down the hall using my connection so surf porn on my dime. :D

heh... meant 802.11b
another question since theres not much good info on that website...
does Win-Hand allow you to view a PC resolution higher than 320x480 on the clie? It looks like it on the site. and I dont know of any PDAs with a 1200x1200 resolution. If not do you just get to view a 320x480 chunk of the screen?
If it does somehow shrink the capture of the screen to fit on the clie... hows the clarity? best if you lower your PCs resolution to like 800x600? or is that not needed?
thanks. this software looks almost too cool.
Can anyone tried Win-hand with a modem installation instead of WiFi and post the result?
Thanks.

Win-Hand has no security(disabled) in the free version, but does in the commercial version. In this case, your desktop PC is unprotected. PalmVNC has a bit more protection with passwords.

Can someone post instructions on how to establish a Win-hand connection with clie nx via bluetooth. I am assuming you can connect using a ms-bt1 with the nx and a usb-bt with the xp pc.

GSC3D - there are a few other threads about wireless security, but it's generally a good idea to use WEP (the WL100 supports 128bit) and with many wireless access points, you can further restrict based on your wireless cards MAC (media access control) address. In terms of specific apps, WinHand Free has no security, but if your neighbor was able to get onto your wireless network, there are bigger security issues than WinHand :)
As far as your specific questions, probably best to just try out the free version, then register if you decide you want more security

Sorry, I would help, but I have never used bluetooth yet, only 802.11b. In the wireless forum there is much more chatter involving bluetooth. Maybe you could pick a few hints or something there.

This software works suprisingly well!! I like to use it to connect to my dial up from bed so that I can use netfront (no more getting up in the middle of the night to surf) and sometimes it works better than netfront for surfing! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
With the win-hand, can you copy files from PC to your memory sticks or RAM and vice versa?

msgate, no winhand is primarily for remote control. However, you can use a network hotsync to move files to RAM. If you run an FTP server on your PC you can use VSFTP, or any FTP tool, to move files to MS

is it just me or is the wireless card slow? I unchecked powersaving and I still get slow speeds. It takes me about an hour to upload a 3 megabyte file from the clie to my ftp.

Thanks, captainao. Yes indeed. I have been using the wireless Hotsync on my NX a month after I got it from sonystyle. I'll try this win-hand which is really cool. I hope it's true that PC's internet browser is better than NetFront ( I mean once connected via Win-Hand).

I've been using VNC for so long that I just can't envision winhand replacing it. I'd rather be able to control more than just windows (ie: Linux, MacOS, Windows, BSD...etc). WinHand just seems too limited.
heh! im remoting and posting too! how cool!

Anyone know if there is a way to map the Up and Down buttons to work as keyboard Up and Down? This would help when using the remote desktop to surf, so we don't have to move all the way to the corner and tap the "down" arrow on the the scroll bar, or open up the keyboard dialog and tap down? A return button mapped would be great too. Thanks.
