I'm an ex-Tungsten T user and has just joined the family of TX. Great machine!
On TT it runs OS 5.0, I have no problem to navigate with the 5-way button in programs such as Agendus/notepad(I used most), the buttons was automatically recognized as previous/next/pageup/pagedown as it is(should be).
However, as TX runs OS 5.4.9, pressing the 5-way button will only change the focus(switch between buttons in a Windows-like style) which annoying me much... everytime I have to press the prev/next button shown on the screen instead. :(
My question is:
Is there a way to restore it back to a NORMAL navigation button(like on TT)?

short answer: "no" with a "but"
long answer: "yes" with an "if"

I know "limits are made to be broken".
So, any luck?

there is, if i understand your issue well, one (or two) hack(s) that will make this possible.
check here (http://www.1src.com/freeware/index.php?cid=8) the first to hacks (dunno what would be the best for you...)

Thx, Church Punk!
However, I've tried but it isn't what I want.
Well, he got the same complaint too:

i have an app called "downgrade" highly experimental but it disables most of os 5.4 enhancements and downgrades you to os 5.2.1 till next reset. email me for a copy.

As long as it supports wifi I don't mind. :p

as i said it is highly experimental. i havent tasted it too much, but it does seem to work. i will think about releasing it.but as a warning: if i do it will be unsupported in any and all ways

I'd be interested in it; I don't like how the 5-way behavior was modified for Notepad between 5.2 and 5.4.
Also, I have a TE2, and I wish I could use the d-pad center button as I did back in the TE. Unfortunately, the button does nothing when the Palm is off (rather than show a clock if the button is held down) and it shows alerts if held down when the Palm is on. I'd like to use an app called wing menu (drops down menus on a combination of hard button presses) but that doesn't work with my TE2 because of the behavior I just described.
Dmitry, I'd love to try whatever you have.

rofl, so if the new palmos 6.0 comes out you'd be able to provide an "upgrade"?

Thanks so much, Dmitry. It didn't seem to have any effect on my TE2-- it basically just disabled the 5-way. Interestingly, it also seemed to inactivate fontsmoother/Fonts4OS5. This is a low priority for me and it sounds like you have bigger things to occupy yourself with, so focus on school!

it disables ALL hacks, by palmos as well as by anyone else
