View Full Version : Email Question
I use SnapperMail as my email program. I plan on going on a long bike trip next year and would like to compose and then store emails on my UX-50 until such time as I can get to a computer with internet access. I was wondering if it would be possible to connect to this computer via USB cable and then upload all my emails and also download all incoming emails at the same time. Thought Data Import might handle this task but can't see how now after looking at it.
I will be traveling with a BT phone and could always send email that way but the cost per MB with Rogers in Canada is ridiculously expensive. Thought I might connect every 2-3 days on a free connection and send/receive a bunch at that time.
Comments and suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated. Perhaps there is other software designed to do this.
Thank you

Haven't tried it but try to look up options on how to connect to the internet via USB, ie how to create a Network connection in the Palm OS's Preferences panel that uses an existing network connection of a computer. In Network, you can use the Connections set up in Connection, including Cradle/Cable, probably that should be the one. Have a look at the manual and maybe older description on connecting to the net as I'd guess this type of connection is a rather oldschool way, unlike BT, WLAN. You may also need to be able to share the network connection of the host PC, but not sure
Thanks Kappa. Lots of people reading my post but only you responded.
I was playing around with preferences yesterday but couldn't get it to connect. I managed to find Softick PPP which works fine for connecting to the internet via cable. However it installs to my laptop only and installs nothing to my Clie. I would think therefore that this will only setup my laptop. I would need to have that installed on any public computer I tried to connect to via cable.
I have installed the revised USB scsi driver found on this forum on my clie that allows my Clie to be seen as an external drive when connected via cable to any computer. Perhaps I can find where emails are stored on my Clie and import them into the email program on the host computer.
I'll be traveling on a tandem bicycle and storage space will be at a premium so I really don't want to drag my laptop with me when I have my Clie. I successfully used BT to connect to my Razr and send emails that way but the data packages and rates charged for that by Rogers here in Canada are exorbitant so say the least. Just trying to find a cheap way of updating my blog via email is all :p
I think I have a satisfactory work around solution, using Softick PPP and the revised SCSIdriver I found elsewhere in this forum.
The scsidriver stays on the clie and lets any XP computer see the clie as a USB drive. I saved the softick PPP to my clie memory stick. All I have to do is connect to any computer with internet access via my USB cable and activate Data Import. I can then install softick PPP to that computer provided no admin rights are required. Not the ideal solution, but it gives me internet and email for the few minutes I need it.
So far so good.
