4gb SD cards on Treo 650 unlocked GSM

Does anyone know if the Treo 650 unlocked GSM will work with a 4gb SD out of the box, or does the Treo need to be hacked?

i dont think a treo 650 can support 4GB, cause it can hardly support most 2GB cards. So im sure it needs to be hacked, which i dont think can be done either.

You need to create/install a custom ROM with an updated FAT driver. Do a search over at Treocentral if you're interested in going that route.

I've used a couple of different brands of 2gb cards in my 650 with no problems. What sort of issues do yo y mean that it can hardlu support most 2gb cards?

i tried a GXT 2 GB card. it works fine as long as i format the card and install my entire music library on it. If i dont install my library on it, it asks me if i want to format the card every time i take it out or format it. Also, even with a library in it, it became glitchy a little. Files withing my card are duplicating itself. This happened to another 2gb sd as well. Though most 2 GB works, maybe its just the brand of the SD card thats not supported or something.

As for 4 GB on treos, that would be sweet, i dont mind trying it. But im afraid i would brick my treo =/

Hi guys, I have a 4GB card and a Treo 650, and all it does is read 1.7GB in the card. It won't go higher, the Treo 650 doesn't recognize the card as a 4GB card. Anyone care to help? the treocentral search was not successful for me, if a link could be provided? Thanks

I know that if I format a 2gb card as FAT32, the Treo 650 will not recognize it. :( If I format it as FAT, it works fine. :) :) What would happen if a 4gb SD card were formatted at FAT and not FAT32? :confused: I did the formatting by attaching my SD card via a USB reader to my computer.

If you formatted a 4gb SD card as FAT then you would only be able to use 2gb, because that's the maximum size supported by FAT. FAT32 formatting and a the appropriate driver on the Treo 650 is required to get past the 2gb boundry.
