View Full Version : Who holds their NX by the strap that came with it?

I love the strap that came with the NX series and I usually wrap it around my arm when I carry it for safety, but who carries it around by the strap only? I was just wondering because the line seems very thin and I would think it would snap after time. Do you think sony will fix the NX under warranty if you were holding it by the provided strap and your NX fell and broke because the strap that Sony provided didnt hold?

I find it annoying. Took it off the day I got my NX.

There was a strap?

I installed mine for some reason, and now mostly just carry the NX in my hand and push the strap out of the way while using it.

I guess maybe I could just remove it.

...and when I'm not carrying my NX by the strap, I put it in my purse.... :-)

I put it on because I was mad the other units could have one but didn't come with it. Now that I have it, I use it to pull it out of my pocket, and because I'm stupid, I'll swing my clie on it like it's a lanyard, almost daring the string to break. Now that I use it I put the one on my cell phone. Not sure how much longer I will keep it on, but it was great that they included it.

I agree, I almost lost my NX several times because of the blessed strap catching on something. Yes, there was a strap buried in the box when I got it.

My (very man-ly) husband is a videographer by profession and taught me that you should always hold a video camera or regular camera, etc. by the strap if it has one, so I always use the strap - not to carry it, but while I am using it.

I always use the hand strip. When I had my nr70v I used let my firends use it and it was dropped many times. Now that the nx70v came with the strap I ALWAY make sure that if people want to use it they have to use the strap. That strap has saved my nx70v SOOOOOOOOO many times. It's a little pestering, but I'd rather have that then it broken :)

I am male, straight and carry it in a shoulder bag that my daughter calls "dad's purse." My son in law won't be seen with me when I carry it, which is almost always, but that is just an added bonus.

When i 1st used my NX I did not put the strap BUT later on I decided to... in case I am taking pictures OUT in public AND if I get bumped...

What I do is put my left hand through the strap until it is around my wrist and then I hold on to my NX.

NOT that i am clumsy BUT I do not want to experience someone BUMPING into my hand or 'snatching' it from my hand...

But then i imagine the strap snapping off.

Oh well, it must be just a crutch.

i never use the darn string that came with it, but for some reason i cant bring myself to take it off yet, it just keeps hanging out of my pocket. argh.

01-15-2003, 09:23 AM
Yes, it looks kinda of campy to have it on and may cause inconveniences of it hanging out all the time. However, I still use it as it feels more secure by wearing it on my wrist when using the pda on the go. Sometimes, I will wrap it around my fingers when I carry it in my hand. This is really useful especially when you are walking around in crowds where people like to bump into one another. There were a few instances when someone knocked me and my NX fell off my hand, but instead of falling straight to ground, it just hanged on my fingers! That was real relief, trust me....

I use the strap. Because I have'nt got a case for the CLIE yet, I'm afraid it will fall out of my hands. I make it a point to stick my hand in the strap when I pull it out.

The strap sticking out of the pocket may seem unmanly, but I've gotten over it.

In Japan they have a "Clie Neck Strap" with quick release clasp. I have seen them on ebay for $15 plus s&h and thought it was a good idea so I just made my own out of a $2 dog collar and some duct-tape ;) Mine doesn't say Clie but I think it's stronger than the Sony one anyway!

Like others in this thread, I do not carry my Clie by the strap, but when I'm using my Clie I have the strap around my wrist.

There are too many morons who rudely bump into people, and the floor is a long fall, and very hard.

I miss my Rhodiana case for my Handspring Prism. It had elastic straps on the back. You insert your fingers through it, and the Prism adheres to your hand.

I too, have never used the strap that came with it. I'm not sure if I would use it. I do ALWAYS use the straps that came with my cameras, etc... I might be sorry someday, but for now, no strap.

01-15-2003, 01:51 PM
Personally, I was glad to see the strap! I have a book style Bellagio case for my NX, and the strap is very handy for carrying the Clie. I use a strap for my camera, so why not my Clie?

Anyway, it works for me. BTW, if anyone has any spare lanyards they don't want, you can send 'em my way. I imagine that eventually I'll want a replacement.

same here as many who've already posted... i wrap the strap around my wrist only when using my nx as extra insurance against dropping it in case i'm bumped...

i don't think i would use it to actually carry it - the attachment piece doesn't strike me as being quite sturdy enough to hold the full weight of the nx with constant use.

I read alot with my NX60 and occasionally read myself to sleep at night. The strap is AWSEOME! I had at least three drops to the hardwood floor with my 760 cuz I fell asleep, rolled over, and off the bed it went. No more of this with my NX.
Also as previously stated, its nice security when walking with it as well.

sieve: i live in a large city (san francisco) and often take public transportation (subways and bus), which is often quite crowded during rush hours. i have at least one instance nearly every day of being jostled or unintentially elbowed or something... so i definitely dig the strap on my nx...

What colour is the strap from sony?

Pictures anyone?

I personally think that these straps are retarded, they are too long, if the strap were just long enough to wrap around my hand It woul;d be great, but except for the rare occasion that i am outside using it, with many people, it seems to get in the way, It seems to me that the only use for it is my cats, whom thinks it is fun to pull my NX off the desk by the strap, Im taking mine off

I have the strap hooked to the PEGA-CA80 case (the bulky sports case); I use it together with the case when I going to a place where I need the extra rugged protection.
But on the Clie it sure looks strange.

tubbycub
03-01-2003, 02:46 AM
I hate to put it in my pocket as it is too big and it would be a great waste if you don't show it off since you spent so much money on it.

So I have to use the strap for added protection. It looks really campy for a guy to wear the strap on the wrist. So I simply wrap the strap around my fingers and carry it in my hand. Trust me, it's more secure this way than just wearing it on your wrists....spare the campy-ness too :)
