Now also on PalmGear: http://www.palmgear.com/?xyz=125874
LensWarning 1.0
Designed for TH55 camera, but may work for other CLIEs too (please comment).
LensWarning can check at any time whether the lens cover is closed or not - it is reliable and fast (no slow-downs and no crashes with ARM apps).
The audible-only warning is unique & won't prevent power-off nor interfere w/other apps.
You may even choose to start your camera apps with full brightness and extended auto-off (timer will be restored on exit).
FREEWARE, Enjoy! :)
v1.0 changes:
- More internal safety checks to make an appropriate official (final?) release.
- VOICE REC button extra-safety checks: handles extreme assigment cases.
- Warning at power-off is even longer, but still interruptable.
v0.5 changes:
- Warning may be set to LED Only, or both LED & Sound.
- At off, warning is longer, but interruptable (dismisses if you cover the lens).
- If Movie Recorder application is installed, you may configure the CAPTURE button.
- VOICE REC button may toggle between camera applications when they are running.
v0.2 changes:
- Auto-off extension more compatible with 3rd-party extenders.
- Auto-off duration can be set manually.
- Warning by blinking LED in addition to the sound.
- Warning triggered on startup if been warned at last off & cover is still open.
- Added small icon too.

Due to a problem with 1src.com's upload mechanism, v0.1 was still there up until recently.
Please download the PRC again - you may check your version through the "About" dialog (should be 0.2) - thank you & sorry.

v1.0, probably final.
see real d/l for details.
soon at PG.
I'll appreciate not only comments (especially from non-TH users), but any efforts to spread this freeware to all there was left from the CLIE community world-wide.
Thanks!

Thanks, aiwei informed me so on the d/l page... :)
I see you're the starter of the thread - I also remember you promoted a previous freeware of mine, so double thanks! :D
I understand you're using UX50 - does it work for you? Anyway, I think the problem is more eminent for TH55 users because the lens is at the back (can't see it easily) and located exactly where my finger likes to rest...:p
But I'm really intersted to know if it helped others too (TJs, etc.) - new ideas will be considered as well (I already have a great deal of my own, but I want to see the public's interest ;) ).

Someone told me that LensWarning works on TJ27.
Yeah, he commented on the d/l page :)
Thanks for the notice! I'm really glad to hear that.
About your UX50 - is there some error I may fix, or is it just not-ment-to-be? :o
Now also on PalmGear: http://www.palmgear.com/?xyz=125874 (http://www.palmgear.com/?xyz=125874) :D
By the way everybody - today is the Jewish's New Year's Eve, so...

It's possible to take a picture even if the lens if half or totally covered !
Now also on PalmGear: http://www.palmgear.com/?xyz=125874 (http://www.palmgear.com/?xyz=125874) :D I'm going to talk about your DAs. ;)

I'm going to talk about your DAs. ;)
Thanks, but they're old - the BacklightDAs are not compatible with OS5+. I can fix that easily though, if there's a demand.
BrightnessDAs were abandoned for PowerBright - I'm aware of the different capabilities of the two packages, and I may soon include some sort of a custom brightness dialog to PB.
AutoOffDAs are still very popular to my surprise, even after my AutoOffExtender app. I *think* that they're might be a problem on NVFS devices (TX, Treo 650, LD etc.) due to the need to lock resident code - I can easily fix that as well, but I'd rather invest my time on AutoOffExtender's next release instead.
There will be another, new & pleasant surprise in the Auto-Off realm soon - stay tuned! ;)

Ahhh, yoovee. I use your BrightnessDA's everyday. I think that they are very neat!

LanMan: thanks! I really appreciate the feedback :)
I've just updated LensWarning on PalmGear:
http://www.palmgear.com/?xyz=125874
v1.1 is more efficient; brightness/auto-off/etc. for camera-apps will only be adjusted if lens is already open.

You're welcome, and thanks again! I'm also going to try your PTunesDA.
Thanks Yoovee for all your work. It's a very nice program.

Thanks people, however - a little sad incident (mods?):
The link http://www.1src.com/freeware/fileinfo.php?id=1572 no longer works :(
I tried to update it last night, and one of the page refreshes failed (I had to do a lot of refreshes because I needed to put first a JPG then the real PRC because I figured in the past that it won't update my file any other way...)
Now the entire page seems to have vanished.
I guess I shall stick to PalmGear only from now on!

Possible Bug:
If LensWarning is active and you are in ClieCamera, if the auto-off timer kicks in to turn the PDA off, LensWarning flashes the LED and beeps, then locks up the PDA, forcing a reset.
In LensWarning, both 'Warn' (Top two) options are enabled; All three 'Extra' options are disabled.

Cyker, thank you - I was able to replicate that.
However, I could not find any possible flaw in my code...the only reason I can think of (and to be quite honest, it wouldn't surprise me) is it's Palm OS fault - it simply doesn't "like" certain actions when they're issued upon auto-off time: the official SDK suggests a developer "not to do lengthy tasks" at this event, but never actually elaborates which tasks would fail...I guess it's more complicated than can be trivially categorized as problematic delays, because I had a few seemingly short and non-harmful tasks that failed to complete at auto-off, but worked flawlessly any other time (I'm reffereing to other, non-released, projects of mine - one of which is AutoOffExtender's next version, which is why it's stalled right now...)
Pardon the lengthy explanation up there (for the curious types ;) - short answer:
Thanks, replicated, but it'll need more investigation (I shall possibly simply change some of the warning methods eventually) - meanwhile work-around: use LensWarning's feature to extend the auto-off to extremes...(unacceptable for the long run, I agree).

If you just turn the PDA off, it bleeps 3 times and flashes the LED, but then turns off anyway without freezing.
Is there anything different that the Auto-off does compared to a manual power-off?
Alternatively, you could make your program not warn when it auto-offs, but still have it warn when power is restored?

Nice little program, but has anyone else had this happen? Ever since installing it, now when I open the camera lens, it doesn't automatically go to the Camera app. I have been thinking for a while that this is maybe because I've been using CO a lot lately, but it won't do it in CO, CLIE launcher, or Palm launcher.

Cyker, I planned do to just that :)
salesrep, thank you; try to re-configure the capture button app both from LensWarning's 'Apps ?' button or from the Camera app's menu option and see if it helps.
As a next step, try to delete LensWarning using the built-in launcher (which deletes its Prefs too), verify that w/o LW the capture button works fine, and then you may try to re-install v1.1, since it does work at least on my TH...;)
Please tell me what was the problem if you were successful.
Thanks,
- Yuval.

v1.2
Power off/on warning replaced by warning on power-off by button only (could freeze on auto-off at cam-app).
Fixed possible bug where no warning was given before non cam-apps if warning at power-off was disabled.
Defined the white background of the icons to be transparent.
v1.1
More efficient; brightness/auto-off/etc. for camera-apps will only be adjusted if lens is already open.
