View Full Version : Oh no!!! Dropped Clie!

Yikes! Due to a mishap (a hyperactive friend somehow kicking my T-665 out of my pants pocket onto the floor, accidently), my T-665 now has a purple and blue blotch on the screen on the bottom right corner. The digitizer and the rest of the screen works as normal. Will this ever go away? Will Sony charge me an arm and a leg to replace it? What are my options? *sobs*.
PS- I think my friend would pay, seeing as it's his fault, but I'd rather save him a little.
Thanks.

Sony will charge up the butt, and no, it most likely will not go away. Sorry.

Get a screen from a unit with broken internals (not screen) (same model) and take the screen from one, put it in the other.
I dented the back of my old Vx once (I bumped my pant's pocket, where the Vx was, onto a valve handle in the lab) and it had a black dot in the middle of the screen. I'm sorry to tell you that eye sore has never gone away.
If you pretty handy with your hand and want to save some repair money, you can take it apart by yourself. I did it on my N760C fairly easily to clean the dust between the glass and TFT layer. See this (http://www.cliesource.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=426&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500). So, taking apart T-665, shouldn't be that much more difficult. Infact I have seen in this forum about a procedure for it.

I think the the going rate is 1 arm, 1 leg and 1 left nut. If no nuts, 4 fingers from the remaining hand will be sufficient.
Sorry, hope the damage is not permanent.
I got a Rhinoskin aluminum case for mine and it has saved my appendages on numerous occasions.

Keep your nuts... See if you can find a dead unit on ebay with a good screen. You could try doing the swap out yourself.

That could take a while. I've only seen one T665C put up for auction as a parts unit: I won that one, too, and I just got the digitizer repaired. So far it's working OK (after one day), but let me make this suggestion instead:
Get your friend to buy a new T665C for you. Auction your busted T665C. Give your friend the proceeds. I think you'll get a lot of $$$ since there haven't been too many up for auction, but since your LCD is bleeding "bit juice", it won't fetch as much $$$ as a T665C with broken glass only.

Thank's everyone.
Actually, lkvee's suggestion looks the best to me. But what would a damaged Clie go for? Roughly?
Also, my other idea was to actually sell HIM the damged T665 at full price. Maybe he won't mind the blotch.
And finally- isn't there some website that sells parts like LCD screens? Obviously some non-Sony site?
Thanks.

I paid about $120 for my damaged T665C. The auction pictured a working LCD with no splotches, but the cracks on the glass were obvious. I got only the Clie: no box, no CD, no documentation, no cables, no cradle, no stylus. Since you have good glass, that could be a real plus, since I (personally) have yet to see a T665C with working glass put up for auction. You may get even more since you have all the goodies with the Clie. My last post assumed only the Clie was being sold or put up for auction.
LCDs are much harder to acquire unless they were parted out. Gethightech will probably tell you that as will PDAspecialists (fka STNE). I haven't seen either or any shop carry Clie LCDs, but don't let that stop you from asking, especially if they've parted one out themselves.

The flip case that came free with my T665 is doing great (not the flip cover that's already on it in the box). The one that comes apart from it, but free of charge.

You could try to find a cheap SJ30 somewhere. It has the exact same screen that the T665c has.

I recently dropped my T665c also, and just put the $175 on my credit card for Sony to fix it. I'm not handy enough to do it myself.

Wellllll, I talked to my friend, who said he would buy my broken one for the cost of the new one. A few days later, I showed him the screen, and he said, "Well, maybe we'll go with the ebay option."
We'll see if the screen gets any worse, then make a decision.
