Personally, I have shied away from the 4GB cards because I have had SD card failures before and I can't imagine having a 4GB debacle!! I'll stick to my trusty 2GB Sandisk Ultra II's.

I hear that the Treo 700p does support the fat32 file system, so your 4gig card should work.
But I'm reluctant to get one because once I start using fat32, I won't be able to swap cards with other devices. I also own a T|T3 and that will never support fat32.

I have a transcend 4gb card that works flawlessly on my 700p... now if I could get my 700p to work... new one comes tomorrow via FedEx.... ARGH.

Yeah, I also bought a Transcend 4GB card (150X speed) and I love it. One card for everything: apps, full DVD movies, TV shows, music videos, work stuff...say it with me..."Oh Yeah!" :)
I hear the 8GB card is right around the corner and it's rumored that it too will work with the 700P.

1) Yes
2) Not all brands work, because 4Gb does not exist within the official SD card standard, but there are manufacturers that have 4Gb SD cards. It exists as an official capacity within the SDHC/SD 2.0 standard.
3) FAT32 format.
The 8Gb cards SMEGGIE mentioned are not SD cards but SDHC cards, and require a driver from the Treo 680 (can be found on TreoCentral) before it works in the 700p.

Will a 4 Gig card work on a 650?
I tried a TRANSCEND and it did not recognize it as a 4 gig but did as a 2G.
I have a 2G so I reverted back to it.
Any advise as to what I must do to get this to work???
Thanks

You need a custom ROM with a FAT32 driver in it. I had a 4Gb card in my 650 before I sold it. Worked fine.

Custom ROM not needed on 700p.
I have the PQI 4GB card, which works great. I didn't even reformat it prior to using it. Got it from Newegg, and it's cheaper now ...

Custom ROM not needed on LifeDrive, TX, or 680 either. Those all have the FAT32 driver already.

You need the patched version of the driver. There's giant thread here:

Ok so if I use this driver patch...
And I format my SD card to FAT 32.
What do they mean that if you need to hard reset you wont be able to backup?
Do they mean that once you hard reset the patch will be deleted and wont be able to see the card?
I formated my 4 GIG card and my TREO does see 3.8GIG when I go int the Card info app.
BUT I am not sure the TREO actually can access all of the 4GIG.
Also Filez and FileProg see the card as a 2 GIG one..
Thanks

Correct if the FAT32 driver is in the RAM of the Treo 650. I had mine in a custom ROM.
3.8Gb is correct, but some programs will not be able to read the file size correctly, although they will access all 3.8Gb OK.

I think then my custom upgrade to 1.20 also must have had it included.

I know for a fact that Transcend 4GByte 150x SD cards work on Treo 680 devices. Just got one from NewEgg for $59.99.

Just tried the Transcend 4GByte 150x SD card on my Treo 650. The 650 saw that I had inserted the card and then asked me if I wanted to format the card. I declined to format it.

That'll work with the 680's slot driver patch. More details in the giant thread over at TreoCentral:

Ok, but since a 4 GB works on my 650 is there a way before I buy the 8 GB card for me to see if I already have the driver installed???
I ask this because when I got this 650 it was locked and software branded.
I unlocked the unit with the help a person in one of these forums.
He also helped me update my firmware to 1.20 custom which is how it was termed.
After all was said and done my 650 was software unbranded, and nothing remained from the cell company in respect to there logo etc..
He also told me that it was a custom firmware update that would give me a lot of good new options.
Maybe I am out in left field here but I thought thats why I could use a 4 GB card in this thing.
Am I wrong and is there a way for me to check without investing money in a 8 GB card?
Thanks

Uh, I think that was me who sent you that update...haha You already have the FAT32 driver (you can check if you want using a file manager and look for a "FAT32.prc" file). I don't know about he 650, as I've since upgraded to a 680 but that thread I posted would help you with getting SDHC (like the 8Gb cards) working on your 650.
I don't think there's a way to check before you buy one though.

Is it hard to do or is it a file I install?

Doesn't matter if people know, because that custom update is freely available to the public.
As for how hard it is, I have no clue as I don't have a Treo 650 anymore. The thread will be far more helpful.

You need the FAT32 driver as well for the 650.It also worked on the Tx. Problem with it is that it is slow compared to a Sandisk Ultra II and even slower than a Sandisk Extreme III, which were twice and four times faster +/- as the Transcend 150X. I'm hearing that the Sandisk Ultra II SDHC 4 GByte card works in a 680 without adding drivers etc.. Transcend is going back to NewEgg and an 2GByte Extreme III is on it's way.
The Transcend is called "150X". I wonder what X is equal to? The Extreme must be about 600X. It took the Transcend 12 minutes to do a backup (using NVBackup), Ultra II did it in 5 minutes and a 1GByte Extreme did it in 2.5 minutes. The backup was about 24 or 25 MBytes.

What "it" are you talking about? The TX supports 4Gb cards out of the box, no additional drivers needed. The 680 supports SDHC cards out of the box, no additional drivers needed. The "X" stands for "times", and 150x is the equivalent of 22Mb/s I believe (Wikipedia will confirm/refute that :p). The Extreme is something like 44Mb/s, so it's closer to 300x :D. Also, that is not necessarily the speed you'll get all the time.
