Video formats usable by Image Convertor

I'm using my TG50 with my powerbook (works pretty well with Bluetooth and I can sync with the cradle using The Missing Sync). Anyway, I'm trying to figure out how to convert video to a format usable by Image convertor (which I am using in Virtual PC). The thing is that most of the files I have tried give a "unsupported format" error (I'm using the Japanese version of the software, so this may not be the exact English for this error). A couple of quicktime (.mov) files worked without any tweaking at all, and some others I had to convert to AVI with quicktime before I could convert them. But the great majority of clips (mpeg, mov, avi) I have tried don't work at all -- they are rejected with the above error.

Any ideas as to why these clips won't work? What formats seem to be the best for converting with Image Convertor?

I had had only a few .MPG files not work. .MOV have given me the most trouble, but if it is compressed with Soreson 3 codec and uncompressed sound, then it seems to work fine. For .AVI files, if it's using Divx 4 compression, I get errors. Divx 5 works, but with the sound in MP3 format, it won't convert the sound. I have had to redo any Divx files to Divx 5 format and uncompressed sound. Hope this helps a little.

As for my experience, I have realised that some mpg, mov or avi are encoded with VBR and when I have convert it to mvq. The movie player was not able to run the mvq.

So, I uses the tmpegnc with quicktime plug-in to convert the mov to encode it with CBR instead of VBR and this works!

It might be the sound encoding problem.

Why not try to convert the movie without sound and see whether you can run the movie. If you can run it maybe it is really the sound encoding problem.
