Forgive me if this issue has been discussed before. I could not find it anywhere...

My problem: On the road I would like to upload photos to my blog from my TX over free WiFi access points. However, whichever broswer I use (Blazer, NetFront or OperaMini) will not display the 'upload' button. I suspect this is a java issue. The same is true for internet mail sites like hotmail or gmail, etc.

I could email my photos to flickr and transfer them to my blog using VersaMail BUT the free WiFi points I have tried will not allow outgoing mail. I would need their smtp server info. to set up VersaMail.

I would like not to have to take my laptop with me. My TX is sufficient for most everything else.

If anyone has experienced this and can provide a work around please let me know.

Where do you want to uploade them to?

What about using another free mail service like http://aim.com mail (was Netscape taken over by AOL)? That uses IMAP rather than SMTP for mail. Works great with versamail.

Thank you. I'm not familiar with IMAP but will give this a try.

On that page, click on MAIL or http://mail.aim.com and sign up for the free 2Gig mail. Once you have done that, you can set up the versamail. They don't have help for versamail specifically, but it is following internet standards. I use it with versamail and Thunderbird under Linux. From the AOL/AIM help:
Setting up access to the AOL or AIM Mail servers is relatively simple, and the settings are similar for most e-mail applications. The basic information that you need is as follows:

Your e-mail address is screenname@aol.com or screenname@aim.com. Be sure to include the @aol.com or @aim.com suffix.
The Incoming mail (IMAP) server address is: imap.aol.com or imap.aim.com.
The Outgoing mail (SMTP) server address is: smtp.aol.com or smtp.aim.com, port: 587.
Your user name is your AOL or AIM screen name.
Your password is your AOLŪ or AIMŪ password.

Thanks again. After your first info I was able to create an account at aim.com. I then explored their FAQs and discovered what you have said above. It would not work until I did some tweaking...I had to check incoming SSL, outgoing SSL and ESMTP and use outgoing Port 25 in order to send mail from a free access point. (an Apple airport router)

One further question...

Do you need to change these settings for different WiFi access points?

You should not have to change the settings for different access points unless the access point has some additional restrictions. Once you are on the internet, you are on the internet. But that is not to say the router you are using does not have some firewall that restricts access to foreign ports.
Glad to see you got it working. Can you upload your pictures ok?

Ah, that may be so. It is an open Apple airport router at my work place but it may have some sort of firewall on it. By luck I guess I broke through. Yes the pics attachments went up fine to their destination. I will keep the other settings on file and will try to use another free access point and see what happens.

Again, thanks a bunch. Gott'a love technology!
