Ok 1st of all, hi to everyone, im a VERY newbie user of pdas, i just had some palm a few years ago, (black and white normal battery one^^), and has been like 2-3 years since i touch one...
I want to buy a new pda, and considering the options, LD seems to be quite a pda.
But before buying it, i wanted to ask some question so when i'll do it, i will be 100% satisficed...
I want my pda for normal options, agenda, organizer, mail, office and such, but also i want to be able to view some movies and mostly anime (use of codecs like divx, xvid, ffdshow, matroska, and others i dont remember of), hear some music, web browse with my home/work wi-fi network, had some cool games, and.. i think is all of it^^
Some thing VERY newbie but i had to ask, my former low tech palm had a space to write with the pencil, but in this model i see no space, so, do i write directly on the screen? i know is kind of silly question, but i want to be sure...
I want also to know, how much do the battery last? considering a "busy" day^^ and how long does it take to recharge?
Well i want your opiniom if this is the besto choice right now on the market and if this will suit my needs, also if there is an acc worth to buy along de LD.
Thx a lot for your replies and answers!

Dont even think about it. I love mine but its a lottery as to whether youll get one that doesnt break down in a week (or a year and a bit like mine did).
There must be other stuff in the pipeline by now, wait and get something that is up to aceptable reliability levels.
Also, I was back in England last week and you just couldnt get one anywhere seems to me they might be discontinuing it.
Like I said, I love mine but if I had to count the hours that Ive had to tweek it or reset it or hard reset or puzzle out why it crashed or finally why it stopped working so I had to pull the guts out of it to get it going again - well - its just ridiculous - I definitely wouldnt recommend that to anyone else. I honestly think it was released way before it was ready - way, way before it was ready. So save yourself a lot of money and frustration and wait for the next model.

The writing section pops onto the lower section of the screen when you choose. You have a choice to use it either as a keyboard or the handwriting recognition.
If you are a newbie, I wouldn't recommend the lifedrive, I would instead suggest the TX as with a suitable memory card you get basically the same kind of spec pda with extra reliability. However if you wait a more suitable pda may be released in the near future.

Yup... the Lifedrive may be a headache for a newbie :) i would recommend a TX with a 4 Gig Card, if you dont see any need for a voice recorder :)
But I really like the LD more, TX is just too plasticky and "kiddie" for me and the LD is the MAN! :) and if you do decide to get one, us folks here at 1src will be more than willing to help you out with any problem :)

I agree. I have a LD and am quite happy with it (and find the TX very tinny feeling), BUT I would not recommend the LD for a newbie. It is way too tempermental of a beast.

I bought my LD in July of this year and it comes pre-installed with the update that was released in June of this year and I have had no reliability issues. I think this is the best PDA I've ever had (and I've had a few) The only disappointment for me has been that I can't send SMS messages to my Razr phone.
The LD may seem a bit daunting at first to a newb, but if you're willing to spend some time to learn it, it's a very good PDA. It's not difficult to learn, it just has a lot of stuff it can do.
I've had one crash (requiring me to erase the memory and start over) since I bought it on July 10th and I had a lot of stuff installed and some unstable progs running in the background. so it wasn't the LDs fault.

If you can, find a TH55, that would suit your needs and just get a big memory card for your movies. It is extremly reliable nd the screen is great for viewing movies

its an old PDA by Sony (under the Clie family which stopped production a long time ago) with built in Wifi, 480x320 screen too, and bluetooth for some models... a very solid featured PDA... anyway the point is you cannot buy these anymore unless they are 2nd hand... here's a review... http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_story.asp?ID=6604
support here for your LD will not bother us :)
