Alas, SecondScreen TV, a service that allowed TV listing to be updated via hotsync, appears to be dead. Their website, guideremote.com, now has this noticed:
Guide Remote
Service Closed
The Guide Remote family of web sites and their related services have been permanently closed down as of 6th September 2006.
It is no longer be possible to download TV listings data for all Guide Remote products (RD1000, RD5000, SSTV) or for PTVB
What oh what will I do now!

Does Whats On work again? Last time I tried it, it was no longer functional.
p.s., Secondscreen TV was free too!

I use PTVB with the Zap2it service and XMLTV. A completely free solution. All of this is outlined on the Doublebit site in the XMLTV forum. http://www.doublebit.com/ptvb/xmltv/

Sure.

It also uses XMLTV.
I'm going to check out the Doublbit thing as well, but I like the way What's On shows me a grid.
Also, I sure got a laugh out of the registration deal. You'll have to sign up to see it.

Be sure to look at the powerful search features of PTVB! Find any word within any listing.

I'm not catching on for downloading files. I've loaded app, open a Zap 2 labs account, ran all the exe. programs and I'm stuck. I'll figure it out but I wanna short cut. Can someone post on the "how to" for goofy me? PTVB keeps going to Evolve which has flopped. How do I get xlmtv as an option? I'm somewhat lost.

Dead? I use it every day! In and of itself it does not provide listings. You need to sign up with Zap2It.

Hi,
Same here, and it works for Palm or PPC equally well.
One of my most used apps.
Hardly dead, as Shrink points out but could use some more development to add some more features but still great as is.

It's not in development, that's true. However, you really haven't explored the raw power of PTVB. For example, go to any listing for details and tap ANY word, then PTVB will automatically search the entire database for all instances of that word. Tap "Showtimes" to find all the times that that show is on. Get full listings of movies by their "star" ratings. Create show categories, etc. You really need to look at more features other than it doesn't display a grid. Personally, I don't like the grid "TV Guide" look anyway. Grids don't add any functionality, and takes more screen area.

I don't think I'm gonna like PTVB. it costs too much to keep and to use.

WHAT'S ON is horrible.Ah, but beggers can't be choosers. It's the only thing that I can find that works. It ain't particularly pretty to look at, but it does the job!

Correction: Pocket TV Browser works too. Think I might even like it better than What's On. Wish it had hi-res support for the full screen (What's On has that).

I can't get Zap2it as a scroll down option and I keep getting "evolve" as listings source. Maybe it's cookie or maybe I'll un and reinstall hot sync mgr. Hot sync is showing error after each hot sync. Any ideas??

I'm not sure what you mean. It's freeware, and it costs nothing for the Zap2it subscription, or XMLTV.

You have to make sure that the XMLTV.EXE file is copied to the PTVB directory before trying to download you guide.
Again, doublebit has a full description of how to set it up. Here's a thread:

Yeah, my only real beef with PTVB is that it's not HiRes+. :( But I would'nt give it up, it works too well otherwise. :D I even keep a Favorite Program list so I can only see the things I watch and don't have to sort through the rest. I can also send a program to the datebook with an alarm to remind me.

Lanman, I went thur all directories and pasted the xmltv.exe and all works well now. "What's on" has the file already in its folder an yet I kept getting "evolve" as the data source as with "pocket tv". I went thru all "second screen files, histories, data bases and cookies and removed all of 'em. I was getting PO'd 'cause "evolve" kept overwriting any new data downloading services. All is well now. Thanks for your reply. My late Dad would tell me " if when all fails, read the instructions"

I've loved using PTVB for the last year or so, and was disappointed to see that the Evolve listings were shut down. I spent about 20 minutes trying to set up the XMLTV listing service with no fruition...I gave up and downloaded Handmark's new TV Guide program trial, and, well...it sucks. I hate that you have be connected wirelessly to see the program info, and the listings are counter-intuitive. The programming is shoddy, and it often freezes or lags. Any suggestions? "Whats On" doesn't look all that great...I suppose I can go back to trying to set up XMLTV...ugh. :(

Are you using v1.77? This made setting up XMLTV much easier.

Yes, 1.77 makes it much easier. And don't forget to sign up with Zap2it first.
