Please advise which Palm or Windows device to get next. I LOVED my UX50 but it barely holds a charge, won't sync all the data in outlook (only some parts of contacts make it) and well, it's 3 years old. I've been looking at the Palm TX, but I'll really miss the form factor of the UX50. The DELL Axim seems too complicated to figure out its many quirks.

THe battery isn't that much of an issue. The sync problem is - basically the Intellisync program is a pain to troubleshoot. I use office 2003 and downloaded patches to get it to sync. Even outlook overwrites handheld doesn't fix the problem/

Hard reset time?

There are programs that sync all Outlook fields to Palm (incl. to the UX, of course). The draw back is that you need the corresponding special Palm programs since they create their own Palm databases, i.e. you cannot continue using the built-in AddressBook, DateBook (or programs that use the original databases, like DateBk5).

If it's ok to switch to another Palm address book and calendar program, you should give them a try (I recall Agendus and maybe even IntelliSync having such programs).

My Clie hard resets itself on its own. Any ideas on what next though?

I hate Intelli-stink. If you sync to both Palm Desktop and Outlook, like I do, use SwitchSync. It actually works, unlike Intellistink.

I miss my UX, the screen died, and I haven't been able to find somebody with a dead UX to get replacement parts (no,...I already know about pdaparts, etc and I'm not going to pay the >150 to buy one from them).

The only thing I know of that is as cool and useful as the UX is the *new* VGN-UX180. Which runs WinXP. Which, in it's own is nice, being able to run real software instead of some of the kludgy, hacked-up palm substitutes. The only problem is the $1800 price tag.

I would suggest getting a new battery for yours and hard resetting and reinstalling from scratch. If you've had it for 3 years, it's about time to do so! Are you sure you mean to say that it *hard* resets on it's own? As in, loses all items in memory, back to a fresh, brand new setup? Or, do you mean *soft* reset, like rebooting? If it is just rebooting, then I'd say it is a problem with your install and you have some app conflicts. The best thing to do at that point is to reinstall your UX.

I'd say also to stay away from WinCE machines...can we say wince? There is not a single app that is useful for them (I have 4 PalmOS and 3 WinCE units) PocketPC2002 is crap. PocketPC2003 is buggy. And, Windows Mobile 2005 is bloated and buggy. One of them is expoxied (yes, that is correct) to a mount inside my car permantely dedicated to TomTom with hard wired GPS.

Fix your UX and be happy!

On a side note...if you do decided to part with that great machine. I would be interested in it for parts (I need a screen!).
