hi there, ive tried looking for a thread related to this but no luck, so ill ask this now. Does an EB40 require the UX50's cradle to charge?

The short answer is yes, the longer is it depends on the type of USB charging case you have. Since the attachment holes on the bottom of the UX and the bottom of the EB40 are different, you probably won't be able to attach the EB40 to the case. Thus, you'd need the original cradle. But do have a thorough look around UX cradles/cases and you might find one that could work with both.

I suspect it is possible to mod the EB40 to accept charge through a USB port in a similar way to the well documented UX/USB hack...

The difficult thing is to find a female mini-USB.

Why not use a normal-USB female plug such as that found on a USB extensioin lead? That's what I did with my cradle :D

But, I've a zip-link USB/miniUSB to charge and sync my UX, I would like to use the same wire to charge my EB40.

You could always de-solder the female USB port off some other obsolete or cheap piece of hardware such as one of those external multi card readers or an old digital camera...

But do have a thorough look around UX cradles/cases and you might find one that could work with both.The Brando or gadgetinfinity charging case will charge the EB40 but the EB40 won't stick to the case so don't move it while you charge.
