Modular!!
_______
I don't want a built-in
1 camera in your Clie.(DSC-p8 isbetter)
2 MP3 Player. (Minidisk is better)
3 TV tuner (The $200 5" Plasma from Fry's is better)
They are just making the clie expensive!
All I want is a better version/alternative Pof Doc or Picsel viewer for excel, PDF, Visio diagrams, PPT and Forms in your SJ form Factor. (Plus your regular PIM's eg,
scientific calculator with HEX, bin Trigo etc)

Modular has its place, but the problem is that if I have to carry things separately, I probably won't carry them at all. I bought a keyboard for my N760C, carried it around in my backpack for a few months, but it was never easy to use, so I never did. I also have a camera module that I sometimes carry around. Again, it's not easy to use and, more often than not, it's just not available when I need it.
I'm not interested in buying a tool belt just so I can carry around all the electronic devices you list in your message.
Besides, it's cool to have everything in one package.

i disagree, that is the very reason i bought the NX70
because everything is in one place
If only i could use it as a mobile phone
Sige,
Modular has its place, but not for everyone. I - for one - love my NZ and all that it does. (Built in cell-phone would have been totally awesome, but that might be next... )
I do agree that some of the individual devices are higher end (a better camera, a more fully featured MP3 player, etc). However, I don't always have a need for all these items. Moreover, a single device which has all pieces built in makes for fewer items to carry. Sometimes that's just convenient.

I totally agree with Sige! If the camera need maintainance,
then I still have my organizer and imporatant stuff
You lose/stolen your NZ you lose everything.

*Cough* Springboard *Cough*
It works great, if you want to carry things around. I had a Memplug SD/MMC module and the GPS module for my Visor. It was a good idea, but eventually I came to rely on the VFS expansion the Memplug gave me, to where I didn't want to use the Visor without it. From that point on, I might as well have had it built in. There were also times when the GPS would have been handy, but I didn't have it with me.
What I love about my NX is the fact that I can take a picture in less than two seconds, and I don't have to remember to bring a camera module. I can listen to a song if I want.. spur of the moment.
I'm just saying... Handspring tried it. Of course, I feel if they had found a way to use a standard CF slot and supported drivers for different devices, they would have done much better. Basically what PPC does.

I dont really need the camera, but I love the MP3 player, and I have been an outspoken proponent of making a Clie/Cell phone.

are you talking about minidisc for mp3 or just regular audio recording. if you're talking about mp3 on md, then you are correct, but regular audio on md is low quality due to very bad compression

I use regular audio on my Minidisc and it sounds great, it all depends on the settings you use. I use medium play (3 hours) and everybody I know notices very little difference compared to CD quality. Now I usually make my recordings over optical cable from my stereo to the Minidisc though.

Again, it is a matter of personal need and preference. I have no use for a "mini" digital camera or mp3 player. Wifi is of no interest. If I am away from my desktop I have more fun things to do than piddle on the internet. I already have an outstanding digital voice recorder. I have been using graffiti for years now so the keyboard is rarely used.
I, too, wish that Sony would take into account the varying needs in the population. All I want is a great display,a good amount of internal memory and the latest OS. Doesn't seem like a lot to ask.

There's a certain balance that's required... and where you draw the line is different for different people.
I really like having the camera in my NX70V. I'm always using it to capture stills or movies that I otherwise wouldn't be able to record. Of course, if I'm PLANNING to take a lot of pictures or videos, then I'll bring along a dedicated digital camera or miniDV. But I surely don't want to carry them around with me everywhere I go.
I don't really use the MP3 player much, but do now and again.
TV Tuner?
I wish it had integrated wireless. Again, not something I use much, but it would be nice if it was just there when I needed it.
Again, it's about balance and about people with different needs. That's why there's an SJ22 and an SJ33, for example. However, from a design and manufacturing standpoint, Sony doesn't want to have too many SKUs to worry about. Similarly from a marketing and sales perspective. You don't want to have a confusing product lineup. Plus retail outlets, in particular, don't want to deal with stocking too many models or having too many on display.
It's not an easy decision.

If you really want a CLIE without those features, have you even considered PALM's lineup of handhelds?
CLIEs are personal entertainment organizers, not just a PDA:

It'd be cool if you could order a Clie as configurable. Like a computer. RAM size, wireless, Bluetooth, camera and resolution, built in apps, form factor, etc. Probably never happen due to the manufacturing logistics, but it'd be sweet to have a custom from the factory Clie!!!

I've got that TV. Pretty cool. I can use it along with my wireless "spy" camera for a mobile monitoring system.
The screen is pretty friggin big.

That's because the one that is built in usually isn't as good quality as the one that you buy seperately.

Then don't get a Sony!! If all you want is a great display, good amount of internal memory, and the latest OS, get a damn Tungsten C or something similar. Clie is all about putting lots of stuff into one device. Your complaint is like complaining about Porsche, saying that all you want is a cheap car with good mileage and etc. Different companies market to different groups of people. You're obviously not in the group of people that the Clie is targeted at.

Since when? I bought my T615 because I wanted a great display, good amount of internal memory, and the latest OS. I got that. I didn't need or want MP3 players, cameras, phones, ... and until the last year or so, Sony didn't provide them. The N series, S series, most of the T series, ... When did this change?

You get what Sony wants you to have :). Well, we did have a choice, an NX60 without a camera or an NX70 with a camera :) If you don't need the MP3, you don't have to use it. Everyone wants the perfect PDA for their own personal needs, kind of difficult to do.
