View Full Version : Zire 72 - 4GB card compatibility?

I've read various articles and posts about how numerous Palm models only support SD cards with FAT partitioning, which limits card size to 2GB. But by installing FATFS.prc (or FAT32.prc?) to your handheld, it can then read FAT32 and larger cards will work.

Only problem is that I installed the PRC to my Zire 72 and there doesn't appear to be any difference. Is there supposed to be a new formatting program? Or do Fat32 cards simply work? I'm guessing not, since I've gotten nowhere.

I installed PRC files, formatted my Kingmax 4GB card repeatedly, and can't get it to show as having more than 1.9GB in my Palm.

Can anybody clarify what I'm supposed to do?

Not possible, limited by Z72 hardware.

Not true. Did you even read what I just wrote? Or read posts from people running 4GB cards?

You just have to get the proper version of the driver FATFS. You can email or PM me as i found some time ago the one that seems to work

NEVER MIND! I found it on my own. Only took about 3 hours to find a working link to the right FAT32.PRC file. Here's where I finally found it...

Most instructions I read call for using FileZ to modify the FAT32 Creator and Type IDs to match that of FATFS.PRC. But using the FAT32 that's linked above, they already matched. All I had to do was write this FAT32.PRC to my Zire72, then do a soft reset. It worked.

Two tips...
1. You MUST NOT have your SD Card in your Palm when you soft reset. Keep the slot empty. Then put your FAT32-formatted card in and it should work.

2. Palm installer gave me some trouble when writing FAT32.PRC to my handheld. So I wrote it to my SD Card (when it was still FAT16 formatted)then copied it to the handheld using FileZ. Then popped the card out, did a soft reset, reformatted the card to FAT32 with my computer and popped it back in.
