Apps on CD won't install (initial TX setup). This is prolly something simple, but I don't see it.

I'm now setting up the TX. When I get to the prompt to install additional apps (Docs 2 Go, Adobe Reader etc), the apps do not install. I tried it from the CD (it appears to be add_software.html which drives those installs) and get nothing. I do get prompted to allow the acvtiveX controls to run, I allow them, then nothing happens. I don't see anything in C\Palm\add-on other than VersaMail and MMUpgrade. Other than PTunes none of the other apps are on the TX.
My few 3rd party apps are ancient (from the Vx), so I'm installing zero of them now. I chose the option to install "date book, memo.... only" when prompted since the installer found a few old apps - I'd renamed the old Backup folder but there were a couple items in Add-on which the installer flagged as possibly not compatible.

Since I just set this up, it's no big deal to hard reset and start over. But why don't the additional SW installers run?

Best to turn off all other running applications, especially antivirus and firewall, when running the installers.

Tried that, no change. If I open the IE error message on the essential software html where you find the javascript launchers, I see that conveniently hidden behind a small icon in the status bar (it's windows....) is an error message
"problems with this web page....
Line 55
Char 1
Error 'undefined' is null or not an object
Code: 0
URS : file://E:\English\Essential_Software|title_wifile.html

So that sounds like something in the installer is incompatible with the latest IE ??

This should be a no brain install, I wonder what's up.

I was having trouble connecting for Palm TX to my desktop computer so I foolishly uninstalled the Palm Desktop and attempted to reinstall from my original CD. I get to the first screen advising me that it is preparing to install and then the installer locks up. I quit the CD and downloaded the installer from Palm support. Same result. The app just locks up....

Any thougths?

please help...

It may be easier to t/s this yourself. In my case, it looks like a bad file on the CD. I called Palm, it was simple enough that someone at the call center (outsourced, of course) had seen it before. Installing manually is OK: there's nothing special about the install script apparantly.
To install manually, open ... \PalmCD\<yourLanguage>\Essential Software\ then each folder of interest, then normal install procedures (copy .prc s to your PDA ... u can just double-click), run the exe files, right-click, install the infs.
BQuin - your problem is mentioned on Palm's site, it seems to be common. Also common is lack of a useful answer on the Palm forum, so don't waste your time. The easiest thing to do is reboot, empty the temp directory and hope it works. If that doesn't work, back up your data and unistall your Palm desktop. If that fails, do a full uninstall - uninstall, then KO the Palm tree in your Registry. Back up your windows Registry 1st, there's no 'undo' or 'oopsIgoofed' with the registry.
If it's within 90 days since you bought the PDA you get a free support call, and it's one of the common items for which they can read a <possibly useful> answer off a list.
Bad tech support is standard these days, but it seems Palm is not even making maintaining the online FAQ.
