View Full Version : Zire 72 remaining on on USB power only

Hi there,

I've been using my Zire 72 with Tom Tom for a while now and keep the device powered using a 12V cigarette socket USB converter with its sync cable. Whilst this provides ample power this does not constitute charging as far as the "remain on while charging" option believes so the device turns off after 3 mins unless Tom Tom says anything! As you can imagine when you find yourself on a large stretch of dual-carriageway there is little talking so it turns itself off, I forget to make the turn-off because it doesn't tell me...its rather frustrating.

Anybody got any ideas how to get round this, or maybe a little hack to do it?

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

I had the same problem with TomTom and my Zire72. I think I used a programm called Energy Dimmer (http://www.79bmedia.com/dimmer). In this program you can use different profiles with adjusted brightness and auto-off settings. You can make a 'TomTom'-profile with minimum brightness and for example a 3600 seconds auto-off timersetting.
You can download the program from the 79bmedia site. I don't know if it's freeware. They stopped the program support. I don't know if I still have the regcode. I will look it up when I'm back home.

Success!
