I use back up everynight at 1am. I have the program set to do a soft reset when it is done. but everymorning at 6am or so, when I try to turn on my palm T|X, I end up having to do a soft reset by pushing the reset button on the back. Anyone know what is going on here?

I don't think that NVBackup is your problem here... Do you by chance have an app installed to take away the white border around the screen of your TX? Apps like those have been know to cause issues with power-on. Otherwise I suspect that it is some other 3rd party skinning/background app. What do you have installed?

Wow... That's quite a few apps! So ok... couple of things to try/consider.
1) Check compatibility of all of your apps from the lists: http://www.palmfocus.com/txsoftware.php
http://palmfacts.com/devices/tx/software.php
2)Try Stability Test http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/stabilitytest.shtml after any install of a new app.
3) If all else fails - try a hard reset then follow Palm's upgrade instructions for reinstalling apps one by one until you find the culprit. Or roll back to a stable copy of one of your NV Backups then add new apps one by one and check with Stability Test before proceeding on to next install to try to narrow down your incompatibility.
Pretty much all issues on the TX come from 3rd party software incompatibility.

Does anyone know if NVB makes a log file? I see a few errors when restoring and I'd like to see a log file to try to figure which files are causing the problem.

There is a log file inside your backup called %%log.txt.

Wow... That's quite a few apps! Yeah, I have a couple of apps on my palm, I guess. as soon as I delete one, then I really miss it and wonder what I was thinking.
So ok... couple of things to try/consider.Ok, I will try these, and get back with you.
1) Check compatibility of all of your apps from the lists: http://www.palmfocus.com/txsoftware.php

I have never seen these websites before. Thanks for sharing.
2)Try Stability Test http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/stabilitytest.shtml after any install of a new app.
I had seen this ap before, but did not think to try it again. once again thanx for sharing.

I would hate to do that, but have no problem doing it if I have to.

Thanks again.

well
I have tried a bunch of stuff. now I am going to try something with Datebk 6. I am going to move the datebk float advance time from 6am to 8am. I am going to see if that is the problem.

I just had two nights of NVBackup leaving the device with depleted batteries, once in a weird screen state. I wonder if it has something to do with the auto screen off while backing up option. Do people who get the halt after scheduled backup problem use the screen off option?

Amazing! I had this EXACT problem earlier this week. It started right after I registered uncache. I played with the settings for uncache several times, finally getting a good load after reset (much reduced start-up time) and the problem hasn't returned. It seemed like something was preventing uncache from working, but once it started working as I expected it to (through selecting apps and enabling it) NVBackup has had no further problems.
I hope that helps,
Jay
Hmm... could it be that some part of the memory getting corrupted causes NVBackup to hang? Have you tested NVBackup on corrupted NVRAM/corrupted DBCache, Alex?
I ask because I accidentally corrupted something the first time I tried to install UnCache; something got only partially overwritten. After a hard reset and fresh install of everything, I'm not having any of the problems described.

after my palm t|x came on to do the float advance, it was staying on till the battery went dead, I think.
I changed the setting to move the floats when datebk is first started that day. it seems to have "fixed" it.

I had the same problem with empty batteries in the morning after a backup with NVBackup at night. And I used the screen-off-option, but I did not try it without screen-off. I just couldn't imagine that this could be the problem.
But I deleted an application, that I had installed just before the problems began. It was "Palmasaurus", a system-info-tool. After deleting it - no problems with automatic NVBackup and the battery any more.
I can't swear that only Palmasaurus was the problem, but possibly a combination of it and NVBackup and other system/tweaking tools, I don't know.

I have come across not an error per se, but a minor irritation. I was at my inlaws this weekend and they do not have wifi. I have NVBackup set to backup daily and also set the time when it backs up. Well apparently if it does not find a wifi network it will simply stop and not continue with the backup sans time set. Is there a way to get it to continue with the backup if a wifi network is not found?

Hmmm... I assume that you're using WiFi to ftp your backup to your PC. I recently started using this feature as well but when I was testing NVBackup with this - it looked to me as if the backup to the SD card was occuring first then ftp transfer of the .gz files occured after the clock update, but in a completely seperate step. I could be wrong though... I'll try to verify this later today.

Thanks for the reply, but actually I am using wifi to set the time on my handheld, not ftp. When it cannot find a wifi network it pops up the system's "No wifi network found" box and then goes no further.

IIRC, the time setting takes place after the backup set has completed. It says (I just checked) "Set time after scheduled backup".
Edit: Just tried it to make sure. It made a backup, tried to connect to wifi, couldn't connect, then reset (I have reset after backup checked). The backup set is fine.

I just tried this twice in a location where I have no access to WiFi. I set the time for a scheduled backup, turned WiFi on but didn't connect, and then turned my TX off. The backup completed, the screen came back on and indicated that it was connecting to WiFi. The screen then went back off and came back on shortly thereafter showing that the unit was resetting, as I have also set NVBackup to do.
My backup completed normally both times, despite the lack of a network being available to synchronize the time. Unless I misunderstand what is happening, I don't have the same issue.
So the order of activities is: Backup, connect to WiFi to synchronize the time, then soft reset.
I do not try to connect to an FTP server.
Edit: Or, in other words, my findings are the same as Tom just said in his edit!

Thanks to both of you for checking. Hmm, I wonder why mine seems to be acting differently. I'll do some more exploring.
