I bought the Pocket TV Browser, and service was QUICK!
I received the registration code by e-mail the next day.
It only costs $9.95 !!!
This is one of my all-time favorite apps !!!
I can now do all of the following:
Download up to 14 days of very detailed listings from tvguide.com
Sort and filter them in many different ways (by channel, category, favorite shows, etc.)
Check off shows I may want to watch and they are automatically copied to my datebook. View the listings at anytime ... anywhere !!!
There is a 14 day demo you can try for the Pocket TV Browser, and the associated TV Grid Listings (which is sold by a different company).
The demo for these programs is ABSOLUTELY worth trying !!!

Pocket TV Broswer uses 102K for the app and around 1 meg for the database file.
TV Grid Listings (which is a separate add-on app) uses 67K total.
I set my Pocket TV Browser to download approximately 75 channels, containing 14 days worth of listings. To save space, and reduce download time, I only downloaded "detailed" listings for evenings and weekends, which includes very detailed program descriptions, year of release, actors, etc. For the Monday - Friday daytime listings, I only download the program name and date/time it's on. So with these options, my TV listings database file on my PDA takes up 1 meg of memory.
Most of the shows during daytime are just talk shows, and soaps.. so I have no interest in reading the "gory details" for those shows anyway ! :)
So, now I only need to download new TV data once every two weeks.
I have a cable modem, and it takes around 10 - 15 minutes to download the above 1 meg file. I guess it's because the TV Guide website has to build the data on the fly, and transmit it at the same time, since not everyone has the same channels or the same stations on the same channel numbers.
But this is definitely a fantastic TV guide for a PDA !
I love being able to filter the listings to only show movies, or just comedys, or just look at all the shows playing on a given station during the next two weeks. The sorting, filtering, and search options are teriffic !

It's probably me, but I can't get Pocket TV Browser to copy shows to my datebook. With TVGL, it works fine. What am I missing? Any help would be appreciated.

Okay.
You're looking at a TV show description - tap on the heart. A box comes up with some options. You want to check add to datebook (and pick alarm/repeat if you want that) and click OK. There will be a couple other boxes pop up to show you it's working and voila! They're in your datebook (complete with description & everything!)
Yeah, Mac support would be great. Anyone know of something similar for the Mac?

I understand - but it doesn't work for me. I do the above, get the confirmation about "are you sure", say yes, but the program is never added to my datebook. Works fine with TVGL, but PTV Browser allows me to add all faves at once. Strange that one works, but the other doesn't. Looks like a case of..."ask the author." Thanks for your reply.
dsilver-
Do you have that helper app for Datebk, dbalarm I think it's called?
I found when that was installed it must have been doing something like "accepting" the sent appointment, since it works by having the same application ID as the datebook software. Whenever it was on my handheld adding appointments to the datebook was like throwing them into the ether. It worked again once I removed the file (careful - read the instructions on how to remove it before trying or you might delete more than you hoped for!)
Hope that helps,
Aym

Nope, sure don't. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I left a message for Jeff on the PTVB forum. I would guess that a have a corrupt datebook database - except that everything else - including Agendus and TVGL works without a hitch.

Well, I had an issue once, and it was due to a program like AfterSync, SyncBack or whatever (I forget which one it was) but I used it to run DateBk5 after Hotsync, and it wouldn't work.
SO, if you running anything like that. Try disabling it and see . . .

Another great thing I just discovered about Pocket TV Browser, is that it automatically updates your TV listings database every few days, so you don't have to download all 14 days of listings at a single time! When you run a normal Hot-Sync it adds new days to the end (so you have a total of 14 days from the current date), and deletes all days which have already past.
This is a really great feature, and it saves time by doing it in small amounts, rather than waiting until all 14 days have past, and then having to redownload another 14 days of data in a single download.
I really love this app !!!!

Doesn't look much different than Connected TV (http://www.connected.tv/). I've been using CTV since September and love it. The recently released a new GUI and it's sweet.

Does any of these TV Guide type apps download to the MS?
Can ZLauncher or PowerRun run it from the card instead?
Thanks!

I use TV Browser (and TV Listings Grid for the front end) and have the database (2.4megs!) on the stick using PiDirect, so it should work using PowerRun. If you have enough free RAM, there should be no reason why ZLauncher wouldn't do it as well, but I'm not sure I'd want to wait as long as it would take ZL to load the program and db! ;)

I am haven't decided yet. It could be a pain downloading and moving to the MS all the time. Yeah, PiDirect doesn't work in OS5, it's a shame!

I've been using TV Browser on the stick with ZLauncher and it takes about 4-5 seconds to load the program and 1MB file on my NX70. The automatic listings update from the desktop is nice, but I'm still searching for a way to sync the updates to the proper /zlauncher/apps/TVbrowser directory. For the time being I have to move it there manually after syncing.
