This week we cover my dirty little secret, Palm's new Bluetooth GPS kit for Treo smartphones, this week's 1SRC editorial: Back to School Accessories, the Treo rumor mill and lots more. [details (http://www.1src.com/?m=show&id=1663)]

I also try out other devices to see what the other sides are doing. It's nice to see that the Palm OS Treos are still the best. I've never had a BlackBerry yet though, the stealth looks pretty nice.

I think the Sprint Treo 700wx is real, good point on the whole "x" naming Palm has used in the past. Verizon 700w owners will probably be mad that Sprint will be getting a better Windows Mobile Treo, and also have much cheaper data plans. Sometimes being an early adopter hurts:)

Did I mention that the audio quality of the podcast has improved immensely since you switched over to the Mac?

Copying software CDs is part of my overall backup strategy. Thanks for the reminder.

OMG! I love my little second hand, 3-year old Apple PowerBook G4 with iLife '06! Thank you. Not only do the podcasts sound better, the software is easier to use also. My PC my have been faster in mixing the tracks and converting the project into a .mp3 file, but the trade off in speed for mixing is well worth it. At this point, I'm almost 100% convinced that I will be buying either a new MacBook or Mac mini in the spring when Mac OS X 10.5 is launched.

If you've played the part of the technology geek long enough, you are eventually bitten by early adopter syndrome. But sometimes the bragging rights are worth it.

The bragging rights are definitely worth it:) I' agree with DT, since moving to the Mac you sound so much better. People look better and sound better when using a Mac(kidding), but you're right the apps just work, and work so well together.

So, what do you guys think of the new chat system? Right now, as a beta release, Reggie don't have many bells and whistles but there was a definate lack of lag. And that was the big issue with FlashChat. Gone are the graphical emotocons, but I have no problem going back to the old text "icons". The only things that I would suggest:

1. Make the chat window larger, maybe 800x600 or 1024x768.
2. Since we are going to be on the chat page for 2+ hours, can we ditch the adds? There is way too much blinking stuff on the screen. During last night's chat, I shrunk my browser window down so that the only thing that was visible was the Gabby chat window.

Other than that, I'm good.

Yes, bigger chat window please, I felt like I was trapped in the library stacks.

What ads? I never saw any ads ;) but there sure was a lot of dark blue column encasing the tiny chat window.

Need a way to PM others in chat without having to open another browser window.

Alan:

I have never used Chat so I don't know how to get to the 1src saturday night chat. Could you do a tutorial or give me some idea how to do it...

thanks...

I enjoyed the podcast this week, Alan. More than anything, I'm sure that we all are anticipating what the next version of Palm OS has to offer. Being able to gather what little information there is available and sharing your conclusions with your podcast always keeps me coming back for more.

I wish I could make more of the chats, but I am usually out with friends on Saturday night.

...so I don't know how to get to the 1src saturday night chat.....thanks... The link to the chat is in the menu bar on the top of the page, but I have one comment on this... I think the link to the chat page needs to be added as another bullet under "Site Specific." I tend not to use the menu bar and always forget to look there. Just a thought.

I hate to sound really dumb, but is chat verbal or typed?

Alan G

No, the chat is typed. It's like a group instant message system. We all connect to the 1SRC chat software and have at it. Around 9pm eastern I annouce the evening's topic(s).

The link to the beta chat is: http://www.1sr.com/chat2 however, than may change going forward. Keep listening to the 1SRC podcast and I will keep you guys up to date.

I think you'll like this week's 1SRC Editorial: ACCESS Linux Platform - The Choice of the Next Generation. I'll be posting it later today on the 1SRC front page.

I'm not sure Gabby can PM other members. I was scanning the docs on the Gabby site and didn't see a way to pull this off.
