Other than stereo recording, there are several good reasons to want mic input. One example is for recording phone meetings. It's much more convenient to record a meeting using the built in line out on the phone than to have to rest the clie against the speaker.

uh, I realise it is not a mixing table smartass.
That is another reason why i would like it. a simple line output would be great. The internal mic is ok, but it would have been nice to have line input.

Actually, if you go to www.memorystick.org, they say that a MS mic is in the works.

I wish mic was built into the Audio remote and headhphone jack. I was in the field taking measurements and then leaving short voice memos to transcribe later on. It would have been great if I could have had Clie in my pocket or back pack and then used wired mic with controls like audio player has for headphones. The clip of feature is great.
I did not realize there was a GPS mem stick already out. Does anyone use that?

There is a GPS MS in Japan for use in the Japanese market only. I don't remember if that has changed or not.
