So, sad to say my LD isnt working anymore. I had 14 months of use with it. A couple of weeks ago it started being a bit temperamental when charging (sometimes the light wouldnt go on sometimes it would after a little fiddling). Then yesterday I came back to it and it was just black screen, yet I knew it was charged to green the night before. No reset would start it so I took it apart unplugged the battery plugged it in again and it started. Then it went dead again after a couple of hours of use. Unplugged it again, plugged it in , it was working, charged it up then when it got to green it all went blank and unresponsive again. Tried to do a secure reset but it just hung, tried a quick reset it hung, tried one more time, the palm logo screen came up , hung, faded to white then went black and now no matter what I try it is unresponsive.

Any ideas?

I copied an image of the microdrive before I put it back together just in case the CF mod might sort it out. Possibly a new battery might make a difference too.

What do you think?

I loved this machine, stuck with it, and since the update recon it was near perfect. I have sooo many great palm programs that Id love to use them on a Life Drive 2 but because theyve gotten rid of the palm OS for the future I cant use them (that sucks). I liked the LD a lot but not sure if I want to buy a brand new one, yet Id be lost without one, so......

My condolences.

I agree. It sound like an old battery issue to me, too. You need to rule that out. Try a voltmeter and some tiny probes to monitor the voltage at its terminals. Find out what power is actually being delivered to make your decision.

If you don't get definitive results and you're determined to buy another LD, consider buying a replacement battery first. The reason being that the battery costs much less than a completely new unit. However, it's still an appox. $30 gamble. You decide.

I really don't think this is your problem, but....... try putting the micro drive back in just to rule out a bizarre CF issue. There's no cost and you obviously have nothing to lose.

How long have you been running your LD with a CF instead of a MD?

sorry I guess I wasnt clear. I copied an image of my microdrive so that maybe later I could do the CF mod to see if that would work. I havent done the cf mod yet.

sorry to hear about your problems..have you checked that you reconnected the MD correctly after cloning it??
