First off I have to say I love these forums, I have spent countless hours here soaking up the knowledge from the experienced folks here.

I am looking for some kind of "training guide" for learning how to use the graffiti pad. Maybe like a Mavis beacon Teaches Typing kind of thing to help speed up the learning process. I've searched but haven't come up with anything close. I am totaly new to the Palm format and this is all a big jump for me.

Thanks in advanced.

There is the Graffiti app that come on the device that shows you how to draw the charaters. Also, look around for a game called Giraffe. Its a freeware game and it really helps you to get used to drawing the charaters.

Well... you don't really need those program. It may help if you just use it day by day, if you forgot, use the grifftie help (drag pen from greffite area to top of screen). I think that will give you a very good help.

But Graffiti 2 is so similar to Graffiti 1, you have have it learned in 5 minutes.

Graffiti is easy to learn if you remeber a few easy rules:

This is what helped me to learn:
- only "learn" those characters that are different from the normal alphabet
- write capital letters
- write big (use as much of the graffiti area as possible, that improves recognition)

if you keep that in mind, you will write enough in a few days (and will surely not use the keyboard of the NX, because graffiti is quicker, once you are used to it)

If you want some writing-help you can install a programm that "predicts" what you want to write and makes a suggestion after a few letters. This can improve writing speed a lot.
See threads about those Programs:

*  Textplus ($19.95) (probably the best)
*  Wordcomplete ($24.99)
*  Ender ($15.00)
*  Wordwizard ($19.95)
*  LookDA (free)
You can download them and see reviews at www.palmgear.com (http://www.palmgear.com)

Thanks so much for the feedback! I must say the one thing that impresses me the most about the Palm format is the massive amounts of software at reasonable prices. I am off to check on the "predicting" applications.

Thanks again for your time =)

Mikra- I highly doubt that you are faster at graffiti than most of us are at the built in keyboard.

Pwnisher- Glad that people could help. You should use the grafitti application that is built in. You need to remember that when it is showing a character and there is a dot on it, that is where you start your graffiti stroke.

Don't be so sure about the speed of data entry using Grafitti vs the inbuilt keyboard ... especially if there are numbers involved. I am MUCH quicker at grafitti than using the keyboard. If I had grown up on console games, things might be different, but I cant get my thumbs moving fast enough to use the keyboard. If Sony had a 320x480 device like the NX series WITHOUT the keyboard (and the flip/twist clamshell), I'd have gone for that instead - but VG is just too beautiful to go without :)

Interesting. I agree, with the keyboard numbers are a pain. But for letters, I am very quick at it.

You maybe quick on the keyboard, but if you have seen how some have used Graffiti, you'd be amazed. There is no way to type on that little keyboard as fast as some users can with Graffiti. Your statement probably has already offended a few.

"If I had grown up on console games, things might be different, but I cant get my thumbs moving fast enough to use the keyboard."

Good point and obvious in my household.

I'm waiting for my NV70V to arrive and then will have the opportunity to use a built-in keyboard for the first time. However, I'm very comfortable and fairly quick with Graffiti and plan to use it in tablet mode anyway. I may be proven wrong but -- at least for now -- don't plan on using the keyboard. Oh, yeah... I use TextPlus too. Great app!
