My wife loves the NX60 that I recently purchased and would like to take it in exchange for getting me another PDA. However, it appears that Sony has a habit of updating and phasing out their models two to three times a year. It also appears that new models will be released soon. So this poses the question, do I buy the current model now or wait a couple of months for a new one in the hopes that it will not become obsolete as fast as if I were to buy an NX60 now. I guess what I really want to know is how many of you have purchased a clie only to see the next newest model come out soon after? More importantly, was it a problem or were you able to get a reasonable amount of use out of it before an upgrade became necessary? Just curious to hear some people's views on this issue.

I currently have an NR70 (2 new Clies have since been released) and it still has all the functions I need/want.  I basically decided that the NR70 would be good for at least one year and at that point I would reevaluate if the new Clies had the additional functionality that would warrant buying it.

I won't be upgrading until the OS6 Clies come out (probably at the end of the year).

i got an NX70v for christmas and 2 two weeks later Sony announces the NZ at CES. sucks but oh well. at least they don't go out of date as fast as PC's. this is probably a really good time to throw down some money on a palm pda because palm just released OS5 middle of last year.

If you are positively sure when a new model is coming out and can wait - wait

Buy and be happy with it for awhile. Do not worry too much if Sony comes up with a new model later. They always do every 6 months

If it is just a rumor - buy what you think is good at the moment for your needs - again go back to par 2 - A new model will come up in a few months

I don't consider it obsolete just because another model was released, it isn't really obsolete until it doesn't meet my needs anymore. Otherwise your car would be obsolete evey year and your PC would be obsolete the day after you bought it. My NX was an upgrade from a four year old palm that no longer met my needs. The NX is an NR with a bigger motor, the NZ is an NX with an options package (options that I don't need but others will find useful). Go to the store and check them out, read some reviews and forums. Find something that meets your needs, and get it. It doesn't matter what the other guy has.

I bought my SJ30 in September and my NX70 in November (after the wife wanted my SJ30). I should be good for now. The NZ doesn't interest me at all. All I want now is a backup PDA that I could abuse at work (Air Force flight line).
As others have said, I'd wait. The NZ and SJ33 are coming out soon. And I would bet that the T series replacements should arrive shortly after that. Evaluate your needs and see how much PDA you actually need.
You could always get the Palm Zire now and think "HOLY CRAP!" when you get your new Clié (marveling at it's screen and speed).

Although new models come out often, it occurres less at the same price point. So, maybe start at what you want to spend and see when that model was last released.

But don't you really buy on features per dollar(value) more than where a product is in its life cycle?

I tend to buy on the high end, and ususally buy more than I really need 'cause I get some "gadget" satification.

I'll get my money's worth, but I look forward to the next leap frog in capability!

My feelings exactly. I usually buy a new unit once a year (since my originial Pilot 5000 purchase in 1996) and while this is my first Sony, I don't think I'll be jumping on the "gotta have it 'cause it's new" bandwagon anytime soon. (Of course, if they come out with a T-series with VG, I'm gonna be on that wagon:D )

Will stick with my NX70 for a while, at least until a Clie with PalmOS6, 3or4+ megapixel digicam + flash, built in wifi or bt, built in GSM phone with speakerphone feature and more handheld memory (32/64MB) comes to the market...

Oh yeah, and native MS PRO support too. I expect Sony to have something for me by Christmas...
