Hi all:

My new NX70 arrived yesterday. My girlfriend bought it for me after seeing the deal at overstock.com (ain't she a sweetheart).

Just want to say thanks to everyone here - these boards have been really informative! Visiting cliesource cemented my decision to jump ship from PPC - my last PDA was an ipaq 3630.

Some thoughts on the NX70:

1. Size: It's a lot smaller than I thought it would be. It's really slim, and I think that makes a big difference. This was really a concern, as I wanted my next unit to fit in my pocket better than my ipaq+sleeve did. Reviews made it out to be a brick, but it actually fits comfortably in the front or back pocket of my blue jeans (boot cut - not baggy!), which was *not* the case w/ the ipaq. It's even slimmer and more comfortable to carry than my cellphone (Sanyo 4900).

2. Build: Fit & finish are awesome. Magnesium body just rocks. Way more solid feeling than any ppc I've handled.

3. Interface: Can't comment on the OS yet, as I still need to get through the learning curve. Clie launcher is great though - much superior to PPC. However, it seems most here use a third party launcher? are they that much better than clie launcher?

4. Carry options: I need a belt case for carry while wearing a suit - I'm looking at the pdair case - doe's it come with a belt clip?

5. Software: I'll be searching past threads for software favorites, but can anyone recommend a good map/navigation app? I'm on the road a lot and grew to depend on pocketstreets on my ipaq.

Anyways, I'm sure I'm gonna have lots of fun these next few days with my new toy. I'll definitely be on these boards a lot. Thanks again for everyone's input.

regards,

Chris

Yes and no, it's all a matter of personal preference. I recommend working with the Clie launcher for a bit, then trying a couple of the others - I believe they all come with a free trial period - and make your call from there. It could be that you like the Clie launcher the best!

Welcome to the Clie world! Buckle up and enjoy the ride!

Welcome, you sure will have a lot of fun with your new "baby".

I found my way to ZLauncher after trying almost all others and can recommend it to you. Give it a try.

I'm waiting for my NX70V to arrive (WiFi card too). Can't wait! I've been reading the threads here, downloading software, and preparing to get up and running quickly (I hope).

I'm with you here and recommend reading these threads to give some idea of what can be done with the built-in launcher.

I use Mapopolis + GPS bundle. It's great and the map databases are very detail and complete.

wait a second here, I know about mapopolis, but when you say GPS bundle are you referring to the Sony GPS car module, or have you gotten a third party cf gps to work?

It'd be kick *** if I can save 100 dollars and get something else other than the sony gps receiver.
