Today my hotsync stopped- nothing happens when I try to (usb) sync. MS Import/Export still works, so I know my computer is reading/connected to my NZ.
Anyone else have this problem or suggestion?
Thanks in advance!

Certain apps can block a HotSync, one example is a keyboard driver.
The other common problem is a corrupted driver on the desktop PC.

You might also try a soft reset on your NZ.

if msimport works, reset probably does nothing. is hotsync running on the pc? did you accidentally change the hotsync setting on the clie to modem instead of local?

Learned this one today.
Tried to hotsync a bit too soon while computer was turning on. Probably before HS manager even hit the tray. 615c was not able to establish hotsync connection. Everything looked fine in HS manager and in 615 connection. Changed nothing.
Gave up and powered the computer off. Later turned computer on and waited to hotsync. Worked fine.
Don't know if this happens w OS 5. Sorry if this is well known.

I had the same problem a few times; hotsync and nothing happens. Press cancel on Clie hotsync screen and wait a while. Try again and usually it works (sometimes after 2 or 3 tries). Quite frequently, the first hotsync causes a fatal alert and has to be soft reset. Other than these small annoyances, it works file.

Had the same problem from time to time with all 3 of the PDAs I have had. Something blocks or corrupts the conduits between the PC and Clie. My solution was to reinstall the PC software but not any of the PDA software.

Did the reload of the PC software solve the problem once and for all or does it still recur intermittently?

Anytime someone has a problem, it maybe necessary to go back to square one. It's like asking where the bear took a dump in the woods without being there to see it :D.
You need to pin it down and that usually requires it to be done by process of elimination. There are many causes, corrupt memory, corrupt memory stick, errant apps, or user induced.
Wiping the slate clean and starting over sometimes is the only way.
You can try to disable hacks, old pre OS5 apps, or try to remember what was done just before the problem occurred. All too often we don't get the whole story until after the fact and sometimes stuff just happens.
Good backups are most imperative to have and a solid plan should be formulated. One example is rolling backups, reason is sometimes anomalies may not rear it's ugly head right away.

This has happened to me as a result of installing a program on the comp or on my work comp if the system administrator has been fooling around on my system. I've never had to start completely from scratch. Has always solved the problem just by re installing palm software over the existing on the PC..... so far I have not had any data loss.

This has just happened to me - battery died overnight (not sure why) and I had to restore from MS backup. Now when I try to sych via USB, W2K wants to install new drivers for a "Palm Device Found". I had more luck with infrared synch, but it is not synch'ing all new/changed items from Outlook Calendar. Avantgo synch works ok. I occassionally get a fatal error too.
Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

I think at one point it also asked me to install drivers for "Palm Device". Does anyone know where I can get these drivers? I told it to look on the CD that came with the NZ, but it didn't find any. I believe I canceled the installation and have never been able to hotsync after that.

Suggest you first backup your Sony HandHeld directory, uninstall the software first and then reinstall from the CD. You can then copy back your addresses, calendar and memo entries from the backup. It should work fine.
