View Full Version : UX50 encoding using SUPER?

Anyone successfully one-step transcode .WMV to UX-50 specific resolution using FFMPEG and SUPER?

To begin, let's see what this "SUPER" tool is about.

The Inquirer review -> http://theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=33380
Super homepage -> http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

We all know and love jamerican's excellent guide for transcoding .mpgs to .mp4 -> http://www.jamerican.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5&sid=9bb6d166ae037ec29b1910a73afe01e1

However, the older versions of ffmpeg did not support .wmv decoding as far as I know. The new FFMPEG that's bundled with SUPER can, but there's no guarantee that it's 100% working yet....

I can specify transcoding to PSP format: "ffmpeg -f psp", but it doesn't allow custom UX fullscreen size of 480x320.

If I try to transcode with "normal" MPEG 4 codec, I can force custom size of 480x320, but UX won't recognize.

Is there a way to one step this thing? I tried using the FFMPEG.exe from SUPER in DOS, but it doesn't work either....

Any help? Have you guys played with SUPER at all? It's a GREAT freeware transcoding tool.

I used Super to convert files from flv to something else lately :)

I guess the best option would be to mail the developer and ask him to add those options.
By the way, when you say it failed using ffmpeg from Super on MS DOS, what kind of error message did you get?

me too i tried encoding using super so far my UX50 doesn't recognized the video format. i prefer using pspenc. it's a psp encoder and it's easy to use.

Below are the parameters and terminating message.

I understand it better now, it's because of the "-psp" flag. On the "usual" ffmpeg, you can't have 480x320 (153600) because it's more than 76800...

The JA version is a hacked version which do not check this ;)
That's why you have this error message using Super ffmpeg.

Can you give me a .wmv file which do not work with JA ffmeg version?

No problem ;)

I managed to convert it using the ffmpeg version on JAmerican website, I sent you the url and the command line I used, but I put it there too ;)

whith this command line:
ffmpeg.exe -y -i knight.wmv -f psp -s 480x320 -b 384 -v 150 -r 29.97 -ar 48000 -ab 64 knight.mp4

Heh, Okay, this is my stupidity! The file I gave you worked on my machine too. It's the .WMV that I'm downloading using lyfox that's giving me problems.

Lyfox is utility to directly search the Yahoo music video database and finds out the true MMS:// URL of their hosted video. After finding the MMS://, I then use VLC to stream and save a raw copy onto my computer. It is with this method that the .WMVs fail to convert with JA's or even SUPER's version.

It's hard to send you a file, as they all average 20MB per file. If you want, I can do a detailed write-up of how I do this (with included screen pix). If I do it, it'll be in a seperate message. :)

After writing this down, it could be the way that VLC saves the file that causes a problem - but it plays back in VLC and WMP10 without any problems. Also I think I can use other tools to transcode it to another format, just not FFMPEG. :|

Great tutorial ;)

I retrieved a video and it worked so I don't really know... Can you give me a precise video (name of the artist / video) that does not work?
Here the video I tried (I did not know it, oh my God :D ): Little Texas "I'd rather miss you"...

This is retarded! The movie file you recommended works for me too! Maybe I have to redownload the videos? I'll give that a try, and if that doesn't work, I'll give you a list of songs that I fail to convert.

Thanks!
