Tungsten T3.

Is it coded in the flash ROM?

If so could you reflash it with ROM from another device to change its serial number?

Why would you need to?

doable, but i am not too eager to explain how and release an app until i see a single legitimate reason for this.

I wouldnt think that would be the way to do it, but as Dmitry says, doable.

no reflashing needed

I just want a "vanity" serial number to impress my friends :D

Could also be a security measure with your name encoded on it, unerasable by normal means.

The warranties for T3's are long over so no fraudulent warranty extensions can be done, besides there's a sticker inside with the real serial number...

Sounds like a little nice touch I suppose. Say, dmitry, could you PM me on how to do this? I think I wanna make my T3's cooler now. :)

how to? you need PowerID configured to be in one non-changeable configuration. if you think you can persuade me to spend 30 minutes making it for you (and i do not deny it IS possible to convince me on this) try it.

Would 2 or more people begging for these 30 minutes help you?

IMHO, all you need to do is patch the call that gets the hardware ID...

However, since I am no hack/trap specialist, doing this is beyond me.

Anyways, Dmitry, I _URGE_ you _NOT_ to do this. Programs like MultiUserHAck have already damaged Palm OS developers like you and me enough, so why also kill the serial number(altough I can recall that MultiUSerHAck already changes that)

Really? I don't think Dmitry is afraid of MUH or a way to change the device-serial. There's no patched or cracked version of any of his programs, so he must have found a way to protect his work. Actually, I don't like MUH anyway but a serial like "This-is-OWL's-T3" sounds funny to me

I would like that. But if it's not available, I'm okay with it too. It's just another little thing 1src'ers can have that makes us cooler than brighthanders :p.

not quite so simple as there are 3 functions that do that in ARM, not just one

ok
i'll make 3. after this post the first 3 replies in the right format get their ids.

format:

DeviceType: (eg. t3,z72)
Requested ROM ID: (up to 12 characters, anything printable is ok)
Email: a valid email where i will send the app (none of the spamguard crap. If you want my email, do not make me click links, reply to emails, or jump through any other hoops to get it to you)
Reason: (i am just curious as to why you want this rom id#)
Current RomID: (security precaution. If you ask me how to get this, and do not know yourself, you are not eligible for this offer)

@Tam: this will be locked to a device type and old rom ID so it is pretty safe. and of course i am NOT releasing a full configurable version of PowerID.

REquested ID: 'owleibenguth'
eMail: oliver[at]compuseum.de

Arrrrr, just wipe that grin off your face :p
We just don't trust you. You might do some rude (I mean really rude) stuff to our Palms in case we're caught hacking or patching your stuff. We all know you could do it.... so who knows for sure

i CAN [insert anything here] given enough motivation. I think this has been covered already. :) Hacking my apps? feel free. It's not that people arent trying. Believe me i monitor all those places. They try, and i get plenty of good laughs watching them fail.

No, thanks. Besides my inability to do such things, I don't like programs that might turn against me ;) I only bought UDMH yet (worked like a charm on my T|T) and I never had any bad feelings about paying for it :)

I know that :D
