View Full Version : Clie Remote: How to use it?

I decided to start playing with my Clie RMC app. I've never had a use for it because I just always use the remotes that come with it. But now a couple of remotes have crapped out on me (one's too old, one got riddled with battery acid), so I'm going to try to use it. But I'm not sure how the IR works with the app. Does it need to be preprogrammed using the remotes? Or does it use it's own memory of signals to try to 'talk' with whatever appliance I'm using? I ask this because I didn't see the option to calibrate a signal, and I've been fooling around with the app, trying to set it to do what I want it to do without any success. Suggestions? Or am I missing something?

Have you actually PLAYED around with the application. That is what people dont do. Explore the app.
if you were just playing around with it, you would see the select button at the top left, and then you would click "new" on the bottom left. Then you would set the device to TV, and put in the manufacturer, leave the standard mode that it is on, and name it.
lol
I think that should work

Done this, but no dice. I guess it only works with some appliances? I fooled around with it for about 15 minutes with my TV and my stereo in my room. I'll go ahead and try some more configurations, I just thought there was something I was missing.
EDIT: Nevermind, got some thing to work. Just not on the right TV, but hey, it's a start. Anyone know how to close threads?

I have a JVC TV. I got the TV to work, which is OK, but what I was hoping to get working was my stereo, but alas, there's not a setup for it. Oh well. At least I can get this thing to work with my TV now. Thanks for the help guys.

i mean how do you program it in such a way you can use it for anything.. car stereo, unpopular electrical appliances. All the devices stated there are very common.

You cant - you need a different program - check www.handango.com there are a few available although I doubt they are OS5 compatible but Im not sure.

Dont even bother with other apps. None that I know of support the dedicated IR transmitter on the Clie and your range will be reduced to 5 ft!

You shouldn't delete a thread. Others may learn from your mistakes or should I say miscalculations

If you want to get rid of a setup, you can go into details and hit 'Delete'. That will rid you of one.
I'll leave the thread open I guess. Even though my problem was knowledge based (Didn't play with it enough). If anything, you must spend at least an hour with a program to see if it works right before you post on a forum.
In the meantime, I am still remoteless for my poor stereo in my room.
I decided not to delete it because I thought the thread would die. THANKS A LOT GUYS, GEEZ.
