View Full Version : Limitations of a TE?

I have a TE and am considering whether to put time and software $ into setting it up for my needs. One essential function for me is video playback, another is synching email with Outlook Express. Net access via a wifi card is #3. I'm aware the device is at least 2 generations obsolete, could that be why I can't find the overclock app mentioned in this forum for it.

I already have the E (from employer) so it has the great advantage of being paid for. This post suggests that video won't work so well http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114716

Only chance for WiFi on a TE is the Enfora portfolio.

I use dvd catalyst for my T|E [to convert my dvds to a size more able for it] and have watched the Lord of the Rings and others with glee. I need to use the headphones so I can hear it in the street or at work [machines etc] but it works fine for me.

BT SD card IMHO wont work either...
But the Enfora Portfilio iks a way to go, forgot that..oops.
The problem is that your TE has a very weak CPU. If you encode the videos correctly, it could play them though...but since I have no E, I cant tell you now(Treo 600 is on the way though if ebay seller doesnt scrrew up)

I have an E that I haven't used for around a year because it couldn't economically manage many of the things you mentioned. (upgraded to T5 in the end)
Basically, bluetooth is not an option, email sync is OK but only via hotsync or infrared to phone connection and the cost of a WiFi sled would go nicely towards another model (TE2/T5 or even a TX (built in WiFi, makes the msot sense) if you can go that high.
The CPU is the E really isn't up to video playback IMHO, MP3s not problem. For all the hassle of encodeing your movies to a format that the E may play *O.K*, it's be easier to upgrade your Palm and play whatever you want (T5 plays almost anything using TCPMP).
Just my 2 pennies, ultimately comes down to how much you need these features and how much you are willing to spend to achieve them.
edit: got some of the spelling mistakes

Time = $. A TX is around 160 off eBay (used or refurb) so wasting hours with the E doesn't pay. An hour or 2 to save $, sure. Constant fiddlin' to get it to sort of work, no.
thanks for the info :)
