HELP !!!

My Clie T665c has been working perfectly all year, now suddenly I can no longer hotsynch!

I have performed soft resets, hard resets, uninstalled the program and reinstalled too many times to count, and I keep getting the same message: "Unable to initiate hotsynch operation because the port is in use by another application".

Well................. WHAT application???

I have no open applications as far as I can tell. Checked all my UBSs in Sytem Devices, Device Mgr., etc... found no discrepancies, no unknown or faulty devices, no conflicts. I have attempted to hotsynch with nothing running on the PC at all.. no open web pages, etc. I've been fiddling with this for the past three days and ready to pull my hair out!

Any geniuses out there ready to jump to my assistance? :p

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure would be appreciated!!! :D

Hi jnette, Welcome.

Seen some posts that claim the Keyboard app, for the hardware keyboard, will interfere with Hotsync if left on, just turn it off.

The older Palms used just one UART for both IR and the Serial/USB connector. Sometimes after beaming data the IR port will not release the circuit. A soft reset is needed.

Those are two solutions to try.

ermm..... I'm not the brightest bulb in town when it comes to this stuff, and still a relatively new PDA user. So when you refer to the keybpard app, are you meaning the PC keyboard app ? And how would I go about turning it off?

I've never had to turn anything off before this... my hotsynch has always worked just FINE. I'm stumped. And I've never beamed ANYTHING ... haven't even gotten that far with my PDA "eddication" yet. :p

There may or may not be an application on you Palm device called Keyboard. It is the driver and controler for the external Palm/or other keyboard for the Palm, like THIS (http://www.palm.com/uwk).

Thanx, Josser. :)

I guess I now need to know where to look on my T665c to know if it has the keyboard application. I've never used an external keyboard with it, but may have the application on the device nonetheless. So where would I find it if it is there ? And if it DOES have this app., what should I do with it if it does? Disable it? Remove it?

When it says the PORT is in use by another application, I was assuming it meant a port on my PC... guess not then, huh?

I just got a good deal on a "like new" TJ27 and it's on its way through the mail.. now I'm afraid that if I can't figure this thing out, and it's a port on my PC and not the handheld, then this new clie won't hotsynch either!!!

Any others ever have this problem before? If so, don't be shy... speak up and give this frazzled one some advice and guidance!!! :D

The Keyboard would appear as an app in the Launcher.

Woooooooooooooooooot !!! http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/wootsmiley.gif

I knew I could count on you all ! http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/kissykissy.gif

That last link just did it, Josser! I had poked around with the ports before, but this time I removed my handheld synch cable from the port on the SIDE of my pc (where I've ALWAYS had it and never ran into problems BEFORE when synching) and placed it in one of the ports on the BACK of the pc, and PRESTO !!! Everything back to perfection! http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/yesssmileyf.gif

So now, pray tell... WHY on earth would SUDDENLY the port on the side of the pc where I have always had my cable before, decide that it would show itself and cause my hair to fall out in clumps worrying over this???

Anyway, I do appreciate the link, and it just gave me the extra push to move the cable to another port. I actually HAD moved it once already, to the port right beside it, but that, too, was located on the SIDE of the pc.. but as soon as I moved it to a port on the back of the pc, all was well. I don't get it.

I never had it plugged into a back port before, and now suddenly it wanted to be a jerk.

Who cares.. all I care is that my baby is up and running again, and I just could not be more pleased! http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/blissysmile.gif

Again, I thank you, and this is truly an awesome site... it will be well bookmarked, believe me ! :D
