There is a Release Version for Datebk 6 - the "best" Datebook up to now

Here is more from the author:

http://www.PimlicoSoftware.com/datebk6-v60a-s0.zip
http://www.PimlicoSoftware.com/datebk6-v60a-s0.exe
http://www.PimlicoSoftware.com/datebk6-v60a-s0-withoutplugins.zip

Note that the 3rd file DOES in fact include small plugins (less than 15k)
but does not include the large 1mb+ plugins such as the 4cast plugin.

As you may guess from this, it's time to officially release DateBk6. Doesn't
mean that I'm guaranteeing it's bug free, but at this point, we're really
getting down to tiny nits and when that happens, it's time to release it to
everyone as we probably won't shake out anything else until we get a really
large number of users on board. So the S0 designation now indicates this is
the step 0 release. Do expect several slipstreams and perhaps some quick
step revisions if releasing it to the "masses" suddenly unearths some
significant issues. However, I don't think it that likely based upon the
size of the group here (now numbering some 15,000 users) - especially since
there are so many super-competent power-users on this forum who have helped in shaking it down (I hope I express enough appreciation to all of you for your assistance in doing this!!).

And by releasing it now, it also means that I can now proceed with some
major internal changes which I was unwilling to do at the risk of causing a
substantial delay in the initial release. Those major items include
providing transparent compatibility with the time-zone handling in DateBk
with the time-zone handling in the built-in calendar app, and also picking
up information from the Tasks database vis-a-vis repeat specifications and
alarms. I realize this only affects a relatively small number of users, but
those it does affect, it affects a LOT, and it needs to be done. I also need
to get the translations underway as well, and that effort will not be
affected as there will be no UI needed for those changes.

So my web page today will now feature DateBk6, and the DateBk5 web page will be advising everyone to download DateBk6 instead. And hopefully, I'll get at least a bit of sleep this week (ha!).

Cheers!

In the mean time s0 is out as well :)

I've posted an s0 update which now includes all the prior fixes, updated
Plug-ins and updated documentation:

http://www.PimlicoSoftware.com/datebk6-v60a-s0-preview.zip

and I am expecting this to be pretty much the final code for the first
release. As always, let me know if you see any issues here. There are in
theory no changes between this and the latest slipstreamed R2, other than
documentation and the updated plugins (which now includes the V-1.10 Battery
Status plugin).

The history of all the verision releases and slipstreams is now in a
separate file in the AdvancedStuff.zip file. A slightly revised manual has
been posted at 125+ page Manual:
www.PimlicoSoftware.com/datebk6-v60a-manual.zip
Windows Executable: www.PimlicoSoftware.com/datebk6-v60a-manual.exe

I've installed the s0 update and it seems to crash my T3 once I try to access the program after it has notified me that it is a trial version.

The error I receive is:

DataMgr.c, Line:7399, DmWrite: DmWireCheck failed

I suggest that you post this on the Datebook forum of Yahoo http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/pimlicodatebk/

You'll get a much faster response.

0. Get dbscan from pimlicosoftware (http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbscan.zip)
1. Make sure that you're running at least version 1.9c of dbScan (as of writing it is 1.9i I believe...).
2. Launch it, choose Neither (not Current)
3. From the menu, select "Remove All Deleted Records"
4. Remove deleted records for both Palmone and Palmsource dbs.
5. If any records were removed, change the action of the corresponding PIM
conduit(s) to "Handheld overwrites desktop" for 1 action.

Presto :)

Thank you for the advice. I followed your instructions re-installed Datebk6 and the resource.prc and I receive a similar message. Perhaps I typed it wrong in my first post, but the error message is:

DataMgr.c, Line7399,
DmWrite: DmWriteCheck
failed.

I saw you post on the Yahoo group as well. It surely doesn't hurt to ask in 2 places ;)

Are you certain you have followed the instructions ? Were any records removed ?

At first I chose the "Current" and "History" database as I wasn't following instructions. When I re-read your instructions I did it the right way. Did scanning those databases change anything? I also corrected some errors which were found in the db. No records were removed except the error record.

And did the problem disappear ?

It has not. The error message I provided above is what I received when I try to open Datebk6. I have since re-installed Datebk5.

holvoetn

Are you certain you installed S0 version ? This is the RELEASED version so I am a bit stumped you experience crashes with it...

And DB5 runs ok ?

Just another thought, did you experiment earlier with DB6 ?

And yet another thought, maybe your preferences are corrupt in such a way that does not affect DB5, but does hurt DB6: can you copy the Datebk5DB (or Datebk6DB it might be called) to SD card, then remove it from RAM ? Does your device still crash when opening DB6 ?

mrdeucie
09-12-2006, 02:57 PM
I am pretty sure I installed the s0 version.

Datebk5 runs fine.

I have tried copying all of the Datebk5 records to my SD card and installed s0 and it seems that the problem still occurs.

holvoetn

Just to be 100% clear:
The preferences file is called Datbk[x]DB ([x] being 5 or 6)
You need to copy it to SD and then DELETE from RAM.

Did you do that ?

tosbsas
09-12-2006, 03:09 PM
did you install from sd card??

Often resources file will not get installed correctly that way - copy first resources to ram, than new datebk6 prc

mrdeucie

I moved the files to SD card and then installed Datebk6 fresh and it seems that did not help the situation. Still the same error.

tosbsas

Ok, once again please do the following steps as things work like a charm here:

1. Copy datebk6.db to card
2. Delete all plugins for datebk6
3. Delete datebk6.prc, datebk6 resources.prc and datebk6.db
4. Hotsynch
5. Install - via hotsynch datebk6 + resources from latest slipstream
6. Run datebk6
7. Hotsynch

Where are you now??

Ruben

mrdeucie
09-13-2006, 11:44 AM
1. I moved datebk7.db to my card
2. I deleted all plug ins
3. I deleted 2 files as the last one was moved to the card
4. I hotsynced
5. I installed datebk6 and resources from the first link in the OP
6. I run datebk6
7. My T3 crashes and gives me the error:

DataMgr.c, Line:7399,
DmWrite: DmWriteCheck
failed

holvoetn
09-13-2006, 12:05 PM
Then the system preferences might be corrupt...
Do you use a SD card backup program ?
Make a backup, HARD RESET and ONLY install DB6.

Chances are your woes are gone now ...

Rename your backupfolder under PalmDesktop folder tree (backup_old or so).
Hotsync again, all your PIMs data will be back.
Applications need to be reinstalled one by one.

Good luck !

I am following holvoetn's advice and I did a hard reset and am installing apps one at a time and it seems to be working this time after I realized I had several backup files, but I am now having trouble during every hotsync.

For some reason the device is re-installing everything that I have installed so far everytime I hotsync. This is my hotsync log:

If you would have renamed the backupfolder prior to starting the sync this would not have happened.

mrdeucie

I didn't rename the folder but I moved it to my desktop instead. I thought that would have brought about the same result.

tosbsas
09-16-2006, 08:57 AM
it should - that's really weird. Something is hanging here - again get yourself a IM address and we can walk you thru.

Could you try uninstall palmdesktop and reinstall it?? Maybe one of the conduits is broken

Ruben

No need to reinstall PalmDesktop.
Can you check again what's in the Backup folder ? If something is there, rename to backup_old and sync again.
Make certain to take the correct backup folder in case you have multiple sync ids.

I think I'm going to hard reset again and reinstall everything. I didn't get too far in reloading all my apps so it shouldn't be too bad.
