View Full Version : Dropped it! Before I call Sony . . .

OK, I was opening my briefcase on my desk and out slid the TG50 and hit the carpeted floor. Flip lid came off.

Now the TG50 will not turn on at all. There are no visible signs of disturbance, no abrasions or scratches. I put it in the cradle and it seemed to take a charge (orange light came on, then later went out).

But no lights come on with switch on or any of the hard keys.

LCD looks undisturbed.

Before I call Sony and send it back to them (it is out of the Circuit City 14 return period), is there anything I can try? I did soft and hard resets, of course, but nothing else.

Thanks,

Roky

uh, leave it alone for a while, try to check the hold switch (which i don't think can be a problem on the TGs). Drop it again? :dunno:

Sorry to hear 'bout that.
Happens to the best of us.

I had my first Visor Neo not two weeks when I dropped it. Had it at home for the first bit and finally decided to risk taking it to school. It survived the school day quite nicely, but as I was walking out it took a tumble on the pavement. Oops! :(

Hey Red:

Go buy another TG50, and in a few days take it back tell them it stopped working and you want a refund. :D. 14 day return policy sucks.

Just my two cents.

sorry to hear that too.. & only 14days with Circuit City eh...

Well, if you can put back the flip lid & since there's no visible sign of damage. I would go with duxrus's trick. Since it seems like your TG stopped working. :D

So sorry to hear that.
I guess there is nothing much u can do except to take it back to Sony.
Or u might want to follow Importluva's suggestion before u do that......dunno.

Did you drop the unit on a hard surface? Any rattles? I've tried the honesty approach and with good results. Depends on the company and who takes the damage (if any) report. Good Luck!!

does anyone know if they will fix a scratched up screen and how much it would cost?

Don't think you can get screen scratches fixed :( You might want to try the old Rain-X trick. Spread it on the screen like car wax

"wax on....wax off"

No, was a carpeted floor in my office. No rattles or scratches, but i am reluctant to do the switch trick. i guess i'll call sony and take my medicine.

I'm not even sure the old bait-n-switch will work. At my local computer giant store, Future Shop, when you buy a PDA they actually scan the serial number into the computer, I returned one once and they actually checked the serial number on the unit itself to see if it matched the one in their records....good luck with whatever path you choose though.

Good news! I sent it to Sony and they fixed it (very quickly) and did not charge me.

Says they did a "complete PWB, MP-53 Constant, Replaced Parts."

Works like a charm now. Perfect. Great company to do business with. I don't know why people complain about Sony service. For me it was first class!

Well.... another good example of good service with Sony, guess they're kinda low in Money perhaps. so trying to have better customer relations. :D

Yeah, I was prepared for the worst, but sent it in at the end of April and had it back within the week. Working like new. No problems whatsoever. Almost as good as IBM Thinkpad service.

Thats so weird that carpet destroyed the clie... mine once flung 4 feet out of my hand hitting the wall, then another 4 feet to hit the tile floor. The cover has a little ding in it, and the case snapped apart on the corner (it snapped back together too).

I can never imagine dropping my Clie. :O
Although acidents do happen, I avoid it as much as I can, and haven't made a scratch nor dropped my gunmetal Clie yet. (touch wood)

Oh I just love gunmetal gray...I wish all the clies were gunmetal gray (almost every company is using silver and white, it gets boring fast).
