How many of you delete files such as AddIt, Tutorial, sample music and videos and other extras that are placed on your device after Hard Reset?

If you do, list what you delete? Like for example...

I delete:

-AddIt
-VersaMail (and junk left behind which are literally more than 20 files)
-Tutorial
-DocsToGo (due to lack of graphing feature in Spreadsheet) I readd the Premium software.
-That Music Video sample in Media
-The two songs samples in PTunes

After deleting these things, I then restore my apps using RescoExplorer.

What about you all?

Pretty much the above, except I just install DocsToGo over top of what's there. I've also been leaving Versamail installed because it syncs folders other than Inbox whereas AgendusMail does not (or if it does, I haven't been able to figure it out). But the Addit and demo files are always deleted right off the bat.

(It's kind of sad that we talk about what files we delete after every time we hard reset. Seems we're hard resetting a little too much.)

Yea. True. How many times do you hard reset? Like for me, I feel I have to do another because my TX is freaking out. Also, DocsToGo crashed while I was typing something important.

It hasn't been too, too bad as of late. I'm trying to stay away from most hack-like things (i.e. all the fun stuff). I last did a hard reset last weekend, though, after something caused the system to go into a reset loop (and I got tired of trying the warm reset and removing things one at a time).

The only problem I foresee with this (and it is unlikely) is if one deletes all these files, then fill up storage RAM to the hilt...then hard reset :( then try to trestore froma backup - no go, not enough space! What happens to the backup at that point? No clue but it may not be good..ok, i'm a retentive...sue me!

Would anyone be interested in an application that might remove this files once the files you want to delete are set. Meaning, if I wanted all those files I despise off of my device after a hard reset, I would run an app and it would do it for me, would anyone like something like this?

What about making a custom ROM? I think I read something about it... ask dmitry :)

Yea. I know about that. I just don't want to modify the ROM of my device due to the fact that its risky.

Um, delete those files before you do the restore?

I would totally love an application like this :D I know lots of people have flashed their ROMs and I did once - then switched it back - now I'm rather nervous about flashing it again since I realized that it's really risky business. An application such as this would be a great compromise for those of us who want the files gone yet don't want to risk the flash.

So are you offering to write something like this? I agree with you list posted earlier.

@jamerican,

I was skeptical as well, especially in the beginning. However, others were the sacrificial
goats & their reports of stability convinced me; esp. b/c only one part of ROM is changed. Now I don't have to get rid of all of that ridiculous AddIt stuff, etc.

Also, you can simply use the enterprise security update fm palm to bring things back to the way they were. Again, others have done this successfully.

Good luck,

Eli

Well I am considering making this application, I just wanted to see if people were interested.

@technical1: Having destroyed a UX40 (my first UX), and seeing my bro brick his PSPs, I am really careful when it comes to things I cannot repair like my ROM if it were to mess up. Others also have the same TX as I do but mine has two dead spots and a faulty power button that fixed itself. All TXs are not the same thats why my issues are arising on my device while not on someone elses.

But I agree though, the ROM customization is a great idea. I just don't have the guts to try it due to prior experiences as well as the situation my device is in now.

Hi,

Can I delete Versamail without it interferring with Agendus mail?
Are the myriad of "MM" and "multimail" the files for versamail? Is there a list somewhere?
Does removing Versamail free up enough ROM? I have it set NOT to sync, so rarely even look at it anymore!

Thanks,

Patrice (lurker, rarely post!)

MultiMail/MMwhatever and VersaMail files are all part of VersaMail. I don't know for sure if Agendus Mail uses any of VM's files or settings--kind of doubt it, though. No idea how much RAM you will get back, but there are a lot of VersaMail/MultiMail files to delete.

As for deleting files after a hard reset, I just did that with my Zodiac, going from my "primary" to my "backup." (Battery issues in the primary Zod.) After a hard reset, WordSmith, InkStorm, Kinoma Player, Acid Solitaire, and some other files are automatically installed. I run FileZ from a SD card and delete everything in RAM, then restore from a BackupBuddy VFS Free backup. I have to reassign fonts in FontHackV and confirm my network and connection settings in Prefs, but then everything works perfectly.

(Actually, it goes more like "hard reset, setup/calibrate digitizer, warm reset, run FileZ/delete apps in RAM, soft reset, restore.")

Would anyone be interested in an application that might remove this files once the files you want to delete are set.I'd be interested in this if you write it. It would be especially welcome if you give us a list of applications to check so we could remove what we don't want and keep what we do.

I'm not likely ever to be a ROM modifier.

I think NVBackup will delete the files NOT in the backup when you restore, so that already kind of does that. And for anybody wanting to delete VersaMail (or anything else that gets copied to RAM by the boot-loader) at some of those Treo forums, they list what files belong to what. Just look in one of the custom ROM threads. And a heads-up, I think Air Sam, and SamMgr belong to VersaMail also ;)

BrentDC is correct... If you go in and delete the files you don't want using RExplorer or Filez, then do a NVBackup. If you hard reset and restore from NVBackup those files won't be reinstalled. I've done this for Addit and the stupid music video and versamail.

I think NVBackup will delete the files NOT in the backup when you restore, so that already kind of does that. This approach is fine if your device doesn't change. If it does, a fresh full backup would be needed each time something new was installed, unless I've missed something. A simple utility to run after a hard reset would mean I wouldn't have to remember.

Or maybe the sequential updates I keep would preserve the deletions? Is that the deal? If it is, then an application that kept me from having to track down all the relevant files to remove would be welcome anyway, which I assume was JAmerican's original intent.

I'm definately interested in one, I always have had issues deleting these things (actually I just gave up). A program that does it would be AWESOME.
