Whoopppeeeee!!!! :o
Presumably, 5.01 will include all the new features that justify the illusion that this is a new version (and not, as many may suspect from the fact that it doesnt yet contain any) rather than a bug-fix/maintenance release. I understand that 5.x may be necessary to keep up with Agendus Pro 11.x but if i paid for this as an update I would be royally pissed! (although I would have checked the specs first!!). What is the upgrade path for AM concerning this release??

I'm glad to see this update, as it fixes the problems I was having.
I have to admit that claiming this is a new version really seems deceptive. When you look at what is new, it is nothing but fixes and solutions to problems with the previous version. There is nothing truly new in functionality to justify the new version number. Unless I am missing something.

It is clearly stated in several places at iambic that this is a "maintenance release." It's amazing that I've heard so many times of iambic, "why don't you fix the bugs you've got rather than introduce new features, adding more bugs?" So they do JUST THAT, and some still complain! I guess no matter which way you go, you are going to have your whinning detractors! :p :)
Why the designation 5.0? Hey, all these 4.1.1.1.1.3 vs. 5.0 stuff is entirely subjective anyway. Some make more sense to me than others, but obviously they made sense to the one with the authority to name it what they want.

I don't think that is what people are complaining about here. I am very glad that Iambic fixed the bugs in 5.0. I'm all for that!
The reason people are complaining is that these fixes are called a new version, rather than just 4.x.

I strongly disgree with that! I think there is a widely accepted understanding of what a new version number means. My understanding is that a new version number indicates that there has been an evolutionary development in the program - new features and functions. And it is quite common for reviewers of software to soundly criticize new versions of software that in fact have very little new about them. Iambic Mail 5.x clearly is not anything new. That is what the complaints are about.

"Clearly"? I can't find any mention of this anywhere on their website.

It was in the Agendus Mail forum but looks like it has just fallen into archive status. So tell me again why people are complaining? If you already owned 4.4, 5.0 is a free upgrade. If you didn't own it previously, there was a price reduction for both Agendus Mail Standard and Agendus Mail SSL 5.0 over their 4.x counterpart, so there again you're better off getting in on 5.0. Explain the source of the complaining? Or better yet the reason? I'm well aware of the source! :p

I'm well aware of the source! :pThe reason for the criticism: It is inaccurate to claim this is a new version (5.0) when it is not a new version (see my comments on evolutionary development). Period. That is all I think people are saying. You are throwing other arguments into this and then defending them, when in fact no one is trying to make those points.
Yes I am better off with the upgrade.
Yes it was a free upgrade for me.
Yes they have fixed a lot of bugs.
But none of those things are relevant to the criticism being made about iambic labelling this with a new version number. This is not a new version. Is is merely an update. Claiming this is a new version appears deceptive. That's all that is being said. Nothing else. Nada. Period. Over and out. :p

Well I don't know about you, but I've got better things to argue about. :p Like: Is it further from New York to Chicago or by bus? What's the difference between a duck? :D

It sure doesn't build confidence in thier business practices. Did they need to up the version number to make 'subscription' customers feel like they have been addressed? I don't know of any other company that releases bug fixes and calles it a new version.
