Ok -- love my NR70V. Just got the NX60 for my stepdad for xmas. My NR70V works GREAT w/ my bluetooth memory stick & my T68i phone for surfing the web & checking e-mail (thanks to everyone who helped me get it set up properly).
Question -- should I get the NX70V? New OS, better camera, wifi slot (which I probably won't ever use since I have the Bluetooth MS). Probably won't upgrade to the NZ 'cause it's so damned bit...
what do you think?
Thanks!

Well you get a slightly better camera, a tremendous upgrade in speed, Which I do notice. The OS 5 is a mixed blessing, some dear old apps don’t work, but you are theoretically on the threshold of better apps to come.
One thing no one seems to mention, and I cannot tell you why, but the screen is much better on the NX. Is it because it is a different type of screen, is it because they do better smoothing, because it is always on hires. Both NR and NX screens are the same resolution BUT hold them side-by-side and the NX is superior; brighter, crisper, and much smoother. I leave that to the tech folks on this forum to explain why.
IMHO I would never switch back to the NR, the NX is a winning format.

I would almost say WAIT.
THE NX is a beaut but if you are HAPPY with you're NR, WAIT until the a NEW Clie has MORE RAM, Faster Processor... so the NZ is too much (bulk) for you??
That is if you CHOOSE not to take advantage of the PRICE drop we did not ;)

Uh oh-- some apps don't work? Will my docs to go, worldmate, vindigo, etc. still work? See? This is never easy... i have a definite "yea" and a lukewarm "nay"... appreciate the input though. Actually -- I was thinking of buying the new one at Compusa... for an extra $100, you can keep upgrading your device for 2 yrs -- that's my understanding anyway. You just pay the difference in your purchase price. Barring the new huge NZ, they seem to come out at the same price point & then drop the price of the old one....

i still use my nr70v. got it on ebay for some 480€. not prices for the nr70v are at 450€ lowest and at 570€ for the lowest. if i would not have dropped and scratched my nr i might sell it on ebay and upgrade. so i will stick with it until prices of the nx will further drop.
from my point of view it's just a question whether or not the extras the nx is offering are worth it for you. cam has better resolution but i use it for fun shots where the nr one is fine. os5? well do not need it right now. voice memo is a nice idea. faster speed is also a thing to think about. better screen? well screens are constately improving so you may never have the best one (for a longer period).
one drawback of the nx-devices is apparently the little free ram (seems to be only 11mb).
so finally i think i will stick and wait till new devices come out.

The memory bit - that's a pretty thorny issue. Definite drawback to the NX. Hmmm....

I know for sure that Docs to Go has been updated to OS5. I made the move from the NR to the NX a few days ago, and it hasn't been bad. All of my essential apps work.
As far as that CompUSA plan, in my area it is a one time deal. It is advertised as a protection plan, not an upgrade plan. I used mine to get the NX when my screen on my NR broke. Once you get a new unit, you will have to buy a new plan, the CompUSA plans are one-use only.
I'd say go for the NX. The speed increase is there, and the camera is better. I just love making movies, but you would have to take your BT MS out to do that...

One time!? I specifically asked the salesman when I bought the NX60 for my stepdad... he said it was unlimited. Should have read the fine print. Hmmm.... Well, at least if I get it & get the replacement plan, I can have an updated one at some point in the future, eh? Hate misleading advertising / salespeople.

Well, it may be different at the store you were shopping at. It is really up to the individual stores how they do it. It is still worth it in my opinion. It has saved me twice... My T615 quit reading the MS and my NR's screen broke. In both cases, the $100 for the plan was much better than the $500 for a new PDA. Also, they have a one year coverage plan for $70.

I just bought a NX70 from a friend who bought it from CompUSA about 3 weeks ago. Can I get the TAP without a receipt? The box still has the original CompUSA sticker on it.
With Sony upgrading their devices every 3 months it seems like it will be worth the $100 to upgrade to a Palm OS6 device sometime next year. The NX will probably be discontinued in the next 6 months. What happens in a year when you go back in with a broken device? Do they give you a credit for the full price you paid or do they give you whatever CLIE is out at the time? Thanks for any info.

Im my opinion, you should wait for a new model or for prices to come down.
I moved up from a N710, so it made sense for me. I was able to sell my old Clie for US$ 350 here in Brazil, so it made the upgrade easier.
But I do have to say I am very impressed with the speed of the NX. Most of the developers I bought SW from have already upgraded their SW to OS5.

I upgraded from an nr also and have found the video and voice recording features of the nx to be invaluable as a grad student for classes and meetings. I was a bit concerned at first about old applications which might not work with the OS5 but most have come along quite nicely with updates. The screen is much improved also with less of the dark shading on top that most experienced with the nr screen. Also no lock up with the memory stick port which I experienced with the nr.

I thought I was the only one! I was about to throw my NR out of the window when I was using MSImport. The NX is flawless now, and I can copy a whole memory stick to my computer without a problem.

I used to get lock up when I tried to change memory sticks while the clie was on also
I'm kinda new to this forum but it's been very educational to sit in and watch what's been going on.
My g'friend wants a PDA and I've said that she can have my "old" NR70V. She's off to San Francisco on business next week (we live in London) and the prices that I've seen for the NX60 are very good (the equivalent of about £100 cheaper than in the UK). So I'll sell her my NR and she'll pick me up an NX from CompUSA.
I've looked at the Tungsten T, but love the Clie hires+ screen so I'll stick with what I know.
Wifi isn't doesn't seem to be as prevalent in the UK at the moment as it is in the states (I don't know where the nearest wifi coffee shop is, or even if there is one!) so the NX will probably be future proof for a fair while over here.
Anyway, thanks for all the info. If I get stuck setting up the new NX then I know where to come!! :-)

Actually I'll do something similar with my NR70V -- I bought the NX60 for my stepfather for xmas & she was quite jealous (she has an old Palm IIIC). I'd give her my "old" NR70V and get myself the new NX70V. I've got lots of programs, use my BT Memory Stick, etc., hence the reason I was interested in all your input. Thanks for everyone's advice. Much needed and right on target.
