I was the happiest little camper with my Casio 128K organizer for the longest time. I finally became dangerously low on storage space. I had never given handhelds any thought or consideration until then. I had absolutely NO IDEA these little marvels could be so handy and functional! Had I known this, I would have bought one years ago.

So I did the usual Search of the web for some input and helpful ideas. It was completely useless since I was clueless as to what they were talking about. To make it worse, the prices ranged from under $100 to over $900. "Oh (I said to myself), let me take another 3-digit stab at something that looked so small but yet was so pricey." So there I went to my local Circuit City armed with just a dumbfounded look on my face. I didn't feel so bad once I saw the same faces on the Sales kid(s) that were trying to help me.

Needless to say I went conservative for my first blind-foldedstab and bought the SJ-20. Well after the first 4 hour charge, I can't seem to put the thing down! How many years I've wasted! The only thing I feel I did wrong was to not go the extra cash for the color model. I can't imagine why anyone would need to keep upgrading to Mega-Models at a steady pace unless their livelyhood depended on it or the company funded it. It's sorta the same as the people that constantly upgrade their cellphones to make a simple phonecall, eat a bagel and adjust their car stereo at the same time......?????????

At any rate, I see I will have to upgrade at least once in the near future. That would only be so I could stare at a Color screen for hours on end......

...and, Oh Yea, It Would Probably Be A Sony Clie SJ model...

It's a propriatary OS, casioOS I belive, but it really can't do to much, I had one for a while before I got my first Newton.

LOL psychoactivist, how do you define a proprietary OS?

Wouldn't you say that Palm OS is also proprietary since it can only run PRC Palm program files? Or like how PPC can only run their PPC .EXE files?

I've never seen an OS that wasn't proprietary.....which could run any program from any OS. So far, only the Macintosh OS is pretty much non-proprietary since some Macs can run both PC and Mac programs....

...at the time this was 1996. I really don't think the Casio had an "OS" per se. You could not add SQUAT to what was already there. You had 128 Bytes to work with, period. You could divvy(sp) it up between your Phone numbers, expense, schedular and memos. They were your choices, period. It worked for me since I was anal in the way that I would record EVERY phone number in my entire (measly) life that I encountered. Then, when my pager or cell phone went off (pre caller ID), I could "search" and see if it was someone I knew. Usually, it was and I would choose to call them back. If it wasn't. I would anally(sp) log them into my 128byte organizer.

Well, between the phone entries and the notes, seven years later I ran out of space. To make it worse, the backup program was NOT compatible with Windows 95 (let alone 98). I was strapped to TEXT printouts of my data. I had to MANUALLY enter over 1200 phone entries (with multiple entries apiece) NOT including the notes into the Palm Desktop...... That was a lot of fun.

The best part is that now I can not only search my Phone List, but the DOC and WORD files as well.....

...I am now a Bonafide PDA junkie..... G*d I just love having a purpose........

Gene.....

Oh Yea...... I believe I am also a Sony fanatic.....

My first PDA that changed my life was my Visor Deluxe. The first Clie that opened my eyes was the N760C. It has been since that time I've been using Clies, and I picked up the SJ20 as a backup model in February. I then picked up my main unit the NX70V two weeks ago. For some things I still use my SJ20 for it's smaller size, and I overclock it using FastCPU. The downside to that is with FasCPU enabled, I cannot beam anything.

I used to have somewhere in the neighbourhood of ten phone numbers in a paper organizer (shiver). Then I discovered the Palm IIIe. It is perfect except that I would like twice the memory. Now I go to Best Buy/Future Shop weekly to drool over the Clies. SJ33 is nice but is not (Grrr.) compatible with my dream computer (Apple 700mHz iBook) BTW the NZ90 is not that bad but IMO the thumb board sucks. I dunno why anyonce complains about the NR/NX70(V). I'll stop ranting now...
PPS can I have that N760C?

...like I may have mentioned in a few of my posts, sometimes I take things a lil' too far.(!) I guess collecting phone numbers turned into a hobby.. (sigh) But hey, look at the bright side, my collection doesn't take up any shelf or closet space!

Give your stylus a swipe from the Apps button to your Calc button and voila, FastCPU is off. To turn it on, do Calc --> Apps.

I wish my girlfriend was this easy. :)

No doubt, how much memory does 1200 phone numbers take??

...well, if I understand the Info screen right, it says:
"Address 101K" Then if I switch to RECORDS it says 1159 rec.

That doesn't seem too bad. Some of the games I never use are close to that, if not larger..
